Trivia
#TBT 1950s: Poodle Skirts

#ThrowBackTo... 1950s Poodle Skirts!

In the 1950s, circle skirts were forever changed when Juli Lynne Charlot appliqued a felt circle skirt with the iconic poodle story line for the first time.  Since she couldn't sew, felt material allowed Charlot to make a seamless skirt.

Pictured to the right with her first poodle skirt, Charlot's concept became wildly popular, influencing women's fashion all over the country.

Fundraising
Fundraising Update: We Did It!

Thanks to the generosity of more than 400 OLLI members, we raised $66,158 in 2015-2016!

Our goal of $50,000 for the annual giving campaign was set to help renovate the Michel Student Center with soundproof walls and a new audio system, to provide ongoing maintenance for our new shuttle buses, to sponsor cinema and lecture programming, and more.

The support we receive is a testament to your dedication to our lifelong learning community.  In 2016-2017, we hope to raise $50,000 by May 31, 2017, to complete the funding needed to improve the audio system in the Michel Student Center ballrooms.

OLLI is one the of the few charitable organizations in which your donation benefits YOU now and sustains OLLI for future members.  Thank you for helping us build a better OLLI for today and tomorrow!

Smithsonian Exhibition at Peoria Public Library Ends Thursday, July 14!

The Peoria Public Library's exhibition, Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human?  closes Thursday July 14, the exhibition provides a fascinating glimpse into the complex field of human evolution research.

Based on the popular exhibition at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, the exhibition explores the process of scientific investigation by communicating not only what we know about human origins, but also how we know it.

The Peoria Public Library was chosen as one of 19 sites nationwide to host Exploring Human Origins: What Does It Mean to Be Human?  The exhibition was organized by the Smithsonian's Natural Museum of History in collaboration with the American Library Association's Public Programs Office.  This project was made possible through the support of a grant from the John Templeton Foundation and support from the Peter Buck Human Origins Fund.
