WOW
Thank You from World of Wonder!

To all who donated recyclable items to World of Wonder, THANK YOU!  Our first session was a rousing success, and the students found some creative ways to use your donated items.  Below are a few photos of students building bridges and catapults!

Tech
Lend Your "Retro Technology" to World of Wonder

We have one more session of our summer camp for gifted and talented students, World of Wonder, and one of our instructors is teaching a class to upcoming 2nd-3rd graders on "Technology Then and Now."

We are looking to borrow pieces of technology that our 7-year-old students may not be familiar with, such as rotary phones, record players, manually-operated devices such as egg beaters, typewriters, and even old, "non-smart" cell phones!

The instructor would like to borrow a variety of such items for the week of July 31 - August 4.  If you have any technology you would be willing to lend, please contact Elly at eepeterson@bradley.edu or 309-677-2374.

Thank you in advance for helping a group of young students learn about how technology has changed over the years!

Jars
Sorority Collecting Glass Jars

One of our Continuing Education student workers, Caitlin, is collecting clean, recycled glass jars with lids for her sorority.  They will be "upcycled" into tabletop aquariums for an event at the beginning of the school year.

If you have any medium- to large-sized glass jars with lids you would like to donate, please drop them off at Continuing Education, on the corner of Main and University Streets, anytime between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Thank you!

News Literacy Discussion Series at Peoria Public Library: Understanding How to Combat "Fake News"

Peoria Public Library will host four community discussions, moderated by Dennis Anderson, Executive Editor of the Peoria Journal Star, on how we discern whether a news item is legitimate and how "fake news" influences society.

OLLI members are invited to join any of these free, public discussions:

Wednesday, June 28, at 6:00 p.m. at Peoria Public Library Lakeview Branch
Monday, July 10, at 6:00 p.m. at Peoria Public Library Lincoln Branch
Monday, July 17, at 6:00 p.m. at Peoria Public Library North Branch
Saturday, July 22, at 1:00 p.m. at Peoria Public Library Main Library

The discussions, which are supported by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council, will also encourage participants to talk about how fake news influences civility and democracy in our society and how we can avoid being influenced by it.

Illinois Humanities is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and he Illinois General Assembly [through the Illinois Arts Council Agency], as well as by contributions from individuals, foundations, and corporations.  Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed by speakers, program participants, or audiences do not necessarily reflect those of NEH, Illinois Humanities, our partnering organizations, or our funders.
