NATIONAL SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR NEWSLETTER, FEBRUARY 2017
Dear Friends of Our Lady of Prompt Succor,
This year we have the whole month of February before Lent begins. Here in New Orleans, it is Carnival season – a time of celebrating and enjoyment. In our liturgies the Church reminds us of our call to discipleship. I once heard a talk by an eminent scholar of sacred scripture who pointed out the difference between being a disciple of Christ or merely an admirer, one who stands on the sidelines and watches but does not get involved. Each day of our lives we are called anew to become more faithful disciples. Mary, our Mother, gives us a perfect example of how to be a disciple. It begins, as she did, by pondering our experiences, as the scriptures say of her: “And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” Our Lady of Prompt Succor, teach us all to be faithful disciples!
