State Hazard Mitigation Team Quarterly Meeting Report

The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management (OEM) State Hazard Mitigation Team recently held their quarterly meeting.    One of the issues that was discussed is the population size for Local Hazard Mitigation Plan funding.   The proposal was that they follow a similar methodology as Texas in setting the cost of local planning grants to include only funding plans for counties and municipalities with greater than 25,000 population, provide a capped amount for plan updates and fund plans based on actual community needs rather than the 10-step FEMA framework.

They will be putting together a committee to look at this issue and the OML Board of Directors has asked Frank Barnes, OKC Emergency Manager, to be our representative on this committee.  OML is appreciative of his willingness to participate and he will keep us updated as the meetings take place.  Mr. Barnes has also agreed to be the point of contact for any concerns or questions you may have about this issue.  He can be reached at [email protected].
