Update - Metro's Silver Line

Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews have been hard at work at the site of the future Herndon Metrorail Station in the median of the Dulles Access Highway, just north of the Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride on Sunrise Valley Drive. As one of six stations along the Silver Line Phase 2 alignment, the Herndon Station will be integrated with the multi-modal amenities at the park and ride facility. Currently under construction is the station itself, the pedestrian bridges and pavilion on the south side of the Dulles Access Highway and Dulles Toll Road that will provide access to the station from the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride, and the electrical system that will provide power to the rail and to the station.
At the station site, precast concrete installation is 95 percent complete, with over 700 pieces set to date. The "vault," which is the structure comprised of steel beams that support the roof over the passenger platform, has been fully erected, and additional welding and touch-up painting is ongoing. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are roughed in, and waterproof roofing over the concrete section of the station will begin in June. One of the two north pedestrian bridge piers is complete. The westbound Dulles International Airport Access Highway will be shifted to make room to build the next pier in the coming months.

The town has received two development proposals for the redevelopment of portions of the Herndon Metro area. The first proposal is for the redevelopment of 625 Herndon Parkway into 64 two over two stacked townhomes by Stanley Martin Companies.  The project is currently in site plan review. The second proposal is for 555 Herndon Parkway, where a development plan has been submitted by Penzance calling for a mix of uses to include retail, office and residential development. The proposal is currently in initial review.
