ONGOING GROUPS AT MOOR HALL

For many years now both Ruth Issett and myself have been offering on-going courses at Moor Hall.
These have proved to be very popular, with some students returning after 10 years or more!!!! Others just pop by for a term but then decide to stay on longer. This is what we offer, and the good news is that we have spaces on two of these courses, one with Ruth and the other with me.

If you would to consider joining either do drop me an email at [email protected] to find out more.

Drawing and Painting

These art courses offering insight into innovative art projects, exploring many ways of using techniques and media. We sometimes look at the work of an artist and consider possible working methods, other times we explore experimental approaches and other times it is just good 'old fashioned' drawing. Critique of work, artist research, lively discussion are essential parts of each session.

Here is a taste of the type of work we may investigate during these drawing sessions. This particular set of work was produced on a 3 day drawing course I did this June and somehow I forgot to show you the results. Here they are anyway!!

An early exercise which introduces students to the idea of space in a drawing.

We then progressed to some observational drawing with some great results.

We then worked on a couple of ideas of abstraction working from these observational drawings.

This exercise involved cutting and manipulating the first drawing and doing a new version. This is a very tricky exercise which the students managed really well.

We the then revisited the observation drawing and did a further form of abstraction and this time took the design into colour, using pastels.

We then experimented more freely using charcoal, pastels and a rubber for these more quick expressive works.

Our final more fun project had students drawing all over the paper, overlapping images and turning the paper around, before adding lines and further marks. One students even started to add in colour.

All in all a very successful 3 day course and a glimpse of some of the kinds of activities we get involved with, in the art sessions.

My apologies to the lovely group that came to me on this course, for not showing this work sooner, but a real pleasure to see it now.
Thank you.
DON'T FORGET TO GET ALONG TO THE MINERVA ARTS CENTRE.

Bye for now
