FOUR SOLOS 2
Frank Hansen - John Hull
Madai Taylor - Jordan Weber

by Michael Morain in the Des Moines Register about Jordan Weber and the Four Solos 2 exhibit.

FRANK HANSEN is an Iowa artist who uses reclaimed materials to create works drawn from childhood memories, social/political topics, inside jokes and absurd imagery. Raised on a small farm near Des Moines, Hansen formed his artistic vision early on by collaging the rusty old junk found nearby. Hansen's process can be extremely spontaneous at times while some works are constructed over months and years. Hansen received his BFA from Grand View University and his works are included in collections across the nation.

JOHN HULL is a painter who tells stories of life passages - "a series of psychological stories filled with boredom and wonder." He says, "...no matter how many different series or narrative ideas I explore as a painter, I think I end up telling the same story." Hull received a BA from Yale University and MFA from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His work is included in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, the Israel Museum, the New Museum of Contemporary Art and Yale University Art Gallery. Hull is currently a Professor of Painting in the Studio Art department at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

MADAI TAYLOR is an Iowa-based painter who has used earth to create non-representational artworks for the past two decades. Taylor's drawing is generally reductive, using common gardening tools, sticks and branches to remove portions of his earth and gesso mixture to allow the under layer to show through. Taylor has exhibited extensively including a solo show at the Blanden Art Museum and his works are included many corporate and residential collections across the Midwest.

JORDAN WEBER is a painter, muralist and environmental activist who uses imagery from pop culture to create works that intend to shock viewers from their daily routine and increase their awareness and compassion to the world around them. Weber's works are created with spray paint, acrylic, tar, concrete, neon, tennis shoes and repurposed materials including plywood taken from blighted properties. Weber recently received an artist fellowship from the Iowa Arts Council and his works are included in collections worldwide.
