Burke High School senior, Tristen Sims was recognized this fall as a National Hispanic Scholar. He was selected by the College Board for scoring in the top 2.5 percent among Hispanic and Latino Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) takers.
Tristen has also been involved in Boys Scouts for 12 years and he’s currently finishing up his Eagle Scout Award project, which entails making neighborhood libraries. In addition, Tristen is involved with Burke’s Focus Program and has been in FOCUS since the third grade. "
The focus of the Focus Program at Burke High School has been a cross-curricular model in which the school is able to integrate the extra-value standards (leadership, communication, technology) into the English, U.S. History, and FACTS (freshman academic career and technical seminar) courses."
