How Executive Recruiting Is Shaping the Business Landscape
Mediaplanet

With an average of 174,000 new jobs added every month and unemployment among executives and professionals falling to 2 percent, U.S. companies are struggling to attract top talent in a solidly candidate-driven environment.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that executive positions will grow by 6-7 percent for the next few years - good news for professionals.  High demand and a multitude of jobs put the ball squarely in their court.  Companies that revamp their recruitment playbook are poised to win in the competition for top talent.

Enlightened Leadership
Coupled with these growth trends is the desire for a corporate culture that has meaning, which applies all the way to the C-suite.  Recruitment of leaders who inspire loyalty and value teamwork provides a powerful advantage, and as talent raids become more frequent, the stakes are high.

The Millennial Factor
MRINetwork's "2017 Millennial Hiring Trends Study" reports a disconnect between employers and the next generation:  While surveyed recruiters ranked work-life balance as most important, Millennials actually ranked compensation, mentorship and opportunities for growth as their top priorities.  Recruitment targeted to Millennials must factor in their propensity for jo-hoping and their insistence on meaningful corporate culture.

Precision Hiring
As companies are turning to  external recruitment to gain access to this leadership talent, recruitment continues to grow as an industry.  Experienced search professionals know exactly what executives want and what employers need.  They also have the ability to develop candidate pipelines in advance of client needs.  Committed to finding the right person for the job and the right position for the candidate, recruiters play a vital role in helping companies remain competitive.
U.S. Executives See Skills Gap Impacting American Workforce
Adecco

With the unemployment rate still persistently high and the number of people looking for jobs picking up, you might think that finding your next quality hire will be easy. However, according to our recent poll of more than 500 senior executives, you might want to think again. That's because there is a severe skills gap in the American workforce.

THE SKILLS GAP IS REAL - AND SO ARE THE CONSEQUENCES.

According to our survey, 92 percent of executives think that American workers aren't as skilled as they need to be. As a result, nearly half (45 percent) feel that they are missing out on growth opportunities, while 34 percent feel that product development is suffering and 30 percent think that company profits are being hurt.

SOFT SKILLS VS. HARD SKILLS - WHERE'S THE GAP?

The fact that there is a skills gap probably comes as little surprise to you. However, what might come as a surprise is which skills are lacking among U.S. workers.
Forty-four percent of the executives we surveyed think Americans are lacking soft skills - communication, creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, etc. Thus, while candidates may look good "on paper," they don't know how to effectively work within a team or in an office.

That's what makes it so important to look beyond the resume when making a hiring decision. You need evaluate everything a candidate brings to the table, including skills, personality and attitude.
