OUE: 2017 Valedictorian Reception at the Governor's Mansion
Gov. Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal hosted the annual reception at the Governor's Mansion to celebrate Georgia high school valedictorians and their families. OUE was there to welcome the 60+ Tech-bound valedictorians.

CAE: Lacy Hodges Receives Grant for GT 1000 Textbook
The State of Georgia's budget includes funding to support a USG initiative,
Affordable Learning Georgia (ALG), which focuses on reducing the costs of textbooks and the enhancement of
GALILEO, Georgia's Virtual Library and ALG's parent initiative. Dr. Hodges' proposal was selected to be awarded an ALG Textbook Transformation Grant. The grant, in the amount of $15,120, will be used to reduce the cost of the GT 1000 textbook.

OVPUE: Cara-Joy Wong's New Role/Title in OUE & The Provost's Office
Cara-Joy's position was recently reclassified to
Project Support Specialist Senior. This position more accurately reflects her project management work, visibility, and impact through event planning leadership, the Provost's Commission, and her other work in the Office of the Provost and the Office of Undergraduate Education.

Campus Carry & LiveSafe App
H.B. 280, more commonly known as "campus carry", was signed into law on May 7th. Earlier this month, GTPD addressed Georgia Tech faculty/staff with insight on the new law (effective July 1st, 2017) and ways to stay safe around campus. Click the link below for more information on H.B. 280 and for information on GTPD's proprietary app, LiveSafe. The app allows for anyone on campus to easily report tips, request emergency assistance, and walk safely around campus.

Summer Service Opportunity
C2D2 is embarking on a summer-long service opportunity to collect unused toiletries from hotels, and now they've extended the challenge to all of OUE. If you aren't planning on traveling, but would still like to get involved, you can purchase travel-sized toiletries and drop them off in C2D2's break room, located in the Bill Moore Student Success Center.. At the end of the summer, they will take the donations to the STAR program or the Atlanta Mission. For more information, contact Shannon Dobranski.
