JUNE 2016

It's FASET Season...
by Dr. Steven Girardot, Associate Vice Provost
It seems that as soon as we say "goodbye" to one class, it's time to get ready to welcome another. While other schools call this "New Student Orientation," we, at Tech, call it the "Familiarization and Adaption to the Surroundings and Environs of Tech"-otherwise known as FASET. As we quickly head into FASET season I want to thank all of you in advance for the hard work and effort that you put into this program. While OUE doesn't run FASET, we play a very critical role in welcoming our new first-year (class of 2020!) and transfer students to their new academic environment; their curriculum and faculty; and to all of the academic programs and services that we offer in OUE.

Whether it's the engaging plenary and breakout sessions we lead, creative resource fair tables and displays we setup, or "swag" that we give away, we're representing OUE and Georgia Tech to a brand new set of students and their families. And with the many questions we'll answer at parent breakfasts, advising/registration sessions, and open houses, we will all have a chance to make a positive impression on our students and parents who are joining our community.

As we move through the summer, please continue to work closely with Cory Hopkins on all things FASET. In addition, if you are relatively new to Georgia Tech, I encourage you to sit in on a session or two, it's a great way to learn more about the entire campus. The next FASET session is June 15-16. In his role, Chris will continue to provide leadership for UROP, as well as all programs within CAE, and he will serve as a member of the vice provost's leadership team.

Dr. Lacy Hodges has recently been promoted to Assistant Director of CAE for Academic Transition Programs. She will continue to manage GT 1000, the newly-created GT 2000 course, and Project One. She will also assist CAE's director, Chris Reaves, with the center's programming and operations.

Dr. Joyce Weinsheimer recently completed her appointments in OUE as Interim Director of CAS and Special Assistant to the Director.  However, she is not going too far.
