Oak Hills Families:  Please Take A Moment To Read The Following Message.
The DOC bill will affect families that are in and out of district along with the teachers and staff in the OPUSD. If the District of Choice program is discontinued this could be the impact:
  • The on-going loss of $16.6 million in General Fund revenues per year
  • The need to release at least 70 K-12 teachers to reduce expenditures by $7.5 million
  • The need to cut another $9.1 million in ongoing expense, which by necessity eliminates important student support, including the layoff of counselors, math and literacy intervention support, administrators, school office staff, maintenance, course offerings, grounds and custodial personnel, extra curricular programs, and more.
  • The decimation of one of the best and highest performing educational programs in the State of California

Oak Park Unified School District is almost at the funding level we were at before the Great Recession hit in 2008.  By discontinuing the District of Choice Program and not allowing the grandfathering of students already in the program, Oak Park Unified School District will again sustain an enormous fiscal loss, and the much appreciated ground we have regained in K-12 funding over the last 4 years will be lost.
Neither our quality educational program nor our General Fund will be able to handle the loss of $16.6 million in ongoing revenues.  We will need to immediately raise class size across the board to reduce our teaching expenditures, reduce classified and administrative positions, and explore a myriad of other service reductions in order to balance our budget.
