Oakland Mills Village Center Area Redevelopment Feasibility Study
A resource for Oakland Mills residents, business owners, property owners and visitors
Letter from Howard County DPZ
Dear Community Stakeholder:

Thank you for your interest in the Oakland Mills Village Center Area Redevelopment Feasibility Study. We had a large turnout at the study kickoff meeting in June and I appreciate your participation in our study process. This study is a collaborative effort led by Howard County and the Columbia Association.

If you were unable to make it to the June meeting, I encourage you to view the presentations posted on the study website: (www.howardcountymd.gov/Oakland-Mills-Village-Center). We also prepared a one-page summary to give you a quick synopsis of the June meeting. Since that meeting, we developed a Frequently Asked Questions guide to offer additional information about the study.

I appreciate your continued involvement as we work to plan for a more vibrant, thriving Village Center. I encourage you to stay engaged throughout the process. Please do not hesitate to contact Kate Bolinger ([email protected]) in the Department of Planning and Zoning should you have any questions. You can also send your comments via our online comment form.

Sincerely,
Valdis Lazdins, Director
Howard County Department of Planning and Zoning (DPZ)

What's Next?
Our feasibility study consultants, Bolan Smart, are working throughout the summer on this effort. Bolan Smart is conducting stakeholder meetings and undertaking targeted research in order to identify, test and compare different land use scenarios.

In the fall, the consultants will return to Oakland Mills to present an overview of findings and land use planning implications.

Stay tuned for further details.

Village Center Update: Weis Markets to purchase Food Lion stores
The County, Columbia Association and the Bolan Smart consulting team are aware of the recent announcement that Weis Markets plans to purchase 38 Food Lion stores, including the store at 5896 Robert Oliver Place in the Oakland Mills Village Center.

According to a press release issued by the grocer on July 14, 2016, Weis expects to convert stores in September and October. The press release did not indicate plans for specific stores at this time. The feasibility study team will continue to track this development throughout the summer.
