Call For Nominations For Parent Involvement Matters Award
The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is seeking nominations for its 2017 Parent Involvement Matters Award (PIMA). The award recognizes parents and guardians who have made significant contributions to public education that have led to improvements for HCPSS students, teachers, schools, programs and/or policies.
Created to highlight parents who have demonstrated significant involvement through volunteering, collaboration, and communication with school and system officials, the PIMA Award honors the involvement of parents in the educational process and the role they hold in student success. The HCPSS award models the Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award, which was previously sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education but discontinued in 2016.
Nominees must be parents or legal guardians of children attending HCPSS schools who have made an exemplary contribution in one or more areas of parent involvement: communication, volunteering, learning, community collaboration, or decision making. Nominees cannot be school system employees or contractors.
Three semifinalists will be selected. The winner and semifinalists will be announced and recognized at the June 22, 2017 Board of Education meeting.
Nominations include a nomination form, narrative statement describing contributions, and two letters of recommendation. Nomination forms and instructions are available
The deadline for submitting nominations is
Monday, May 15, 2017.
Please be sure to check out the volunteer opportunities at each individual school.
Please support Talbott Springs in this Community Outreach program. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to purchase food. To support Blessings in a Backpack, visit
and select Talbott Springs. All donations are tax deductible. We thank you for your support for our students in need.
Make a difference! Help enhance the academic and social development of identified Howard County elementary school students in schools near you through a consistent, supportive relationship with a child. Volunteers must be available weekday, daytime hours to meet one-on-one with an assigned student during the school day or with students in small groups in afterschool programs.
