City Releases 2018 Preliminary Budget
City Manager Rob Wyman presented the 2018 Preliminary Operating and Capital Budget to the Newcastle City Council at the Oct. 3 meeting. The City Council is in the process of reviewing the proposed budget, and holding public hearings. The final public hearing is scheduled for Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

The Newcastle City Council will hold a study session to discuss the  2018 preliminary budget  at 6 p.m. before the regular meeting begins at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17.  During the regular meeting, the City Council will continue discussing the budget, review the Downtown Strategic Plan updates and recommendations, talk about the relocation of the Newcastle brick monument, and more.

Join the Community Activities Commission

The city is looking for residents who are enthusiastic about creating experiences and park spaces that enhance the quality of life for people living here. Apply now for a spot on the CAC! Applications must be submitted by Oct. 31.

The commission is made up of seven residents who make events like Concerts in the Park and Newcastle Days possible, coordinate volunteer activities, and advise the city on recreational, historical and artistic programs and improvements to parks and trails.

Join the Planning Commission

The city is now accepting applications for membership on the Planning Commission. Applications must be submitted by Nov. 8.

The commission is made up of city residents who help shape Newcastle's future by advising the City Council on the Comprehensive Plan and other long-range plans, and zoning and development codes.

City Council Roundup: Illegal Substance Injection Sites, Surface Water Management Fees and More 

The Newcastle City Council approved  an increase in Surface Water Management (SWM) fees for 2018, passed a resolution opposing the siting of an illegal substance injection facility within city limits and more at the Oct. 3 meeting.

The City of Newcastle thanked its volunteers at an appreciation event held at Resonate Brewery & Pizzeria on Oct. 2.  Volunteers received a special thank you from the mayor, ate pizza and showed off their Newcastle pride in a fun photo booth.

So far this year, 170 people have combined to contribute 1,760 volunteer hours to the city.
