First Block Historic District
Designation Moves Forward!

This week was a good week for Keeping St. Pete Special as the city's preservation commission ("CPPC") voted to recommend that city council designate First Block as a local historic district. One more step in the process will follow which is a city council public hearing and vote scheduled for Oct. 20.

Thanks to those who submitted comments in support of the designation - it makes a difference. If you haven't sent in your message it's not too late to do so! It is particularly important for city council to hear community support for protecting this downtown block that includes the Detroit Hotel as the block property owners oppose historic designation. SPP has made it simple to send a message of support to council, just click here to send your message, or click here to get more info at the SPP First Block page.

1st block
And special thanks to Mayor Kriseman for coming to the preservation commission meeting to voice his support for the historic designation and for keeping St. Pete special!
