Limestone County Events Pack The Starting Line With Cyclists, Runners, Walkers and Adventurous

Written by Cayce Lee, ALCTA

Most people may not know how many walking, racing and cycling events go on until they look back across the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association calendar and newsletters -- and these are only the one's that we are informed of!
Add a description
Bike MS: North Alabama

A lot of people outside of Athens-Limestone are beginning to hear about the races and walking events -- and you may recognize a few of them too:
  • Athens - Chick-Fil-A 10K/5K/1-Mile Fun Run
  • Noah Bike Trail - Bike MS: North Alabama
  • Athens - KALB's Duck and Run 5K and Fun Run
  • Athens-Limestone Relay for Life Relay Night
  • Athens High School JROTC Jingle Bell Jog
  • Ardmore - 5K Tiger Dash
  • Ardmore - Shamrock Shuffle
  • Elkmont Lions Club Annual Rails To Trails 10K
  • Mooresville - Rocket Run Ten Miler
  • Mooresville - Heal and Crank Duathalon
  • Athens - Sherri Adams Pink Ribbon Run
  • Athens - Fit As A Fiddle
  • Elkmont - Running With The Goats
  • Elkmont - Alabama State Road Race Championship
  • Athens Bible School  Light Up the Night 5K
  • Athens-Limestone Relay for Life Zombie Fun Run
  • Athens - Apple Annie 5K and 1-mile Fun Run
  • Clements - Annual Spencer Black 5K and Fun Run

What you won't be able to tell from the dates and description of the events is where all of the participants come from.  A lot of professional runners, walkers and cyclist from all over the world have added Limestone County's events to their training schedule or circuits of participation.  There have been participants from California, Indiana, Illinois, New York, Ghana and beyond.

The participants, families, and supporters come to these events in our communities - stay in our hotels, enjoy our restaurants and shops, fill their tank at our gas station and experience our attractions and other events while they're here.  That equals a lot of economic impact in our community from these "temporary taxpayers"  that extends beyond the monies that benefit the charity or group that host these events they pay to participate in.

So, if you get a chance - come out and cheer on these visitors who are giving so much to our community while enjoying the distance, endurance and scenery of our community of one our many race/walk/endurance events.
