OCTOBER N EWSLETTER - WESTLAKE
Dear Parents & Students,

HAPPY HALLOWEEN - Life Ki-do will be OPEN for Halloween
Often Halloween falls on a weekday, in which case Life Ki-do closes for classes. This year however, with Halloween falling on a Saturday when classes are held in the morning and early afternoon, we will be open for normal classes in both locations. Want to know of holidays we are closed?  You can check our website anytime!  Click HERE.

FALL TOURNAMENTS! - Samurai Tournament Oct 24th
Life Ki-do Tournaments are a wonderful complement to regular classes and gives your child an opportunity to strengthen their focus, confidence and social skills. The Focus Tournaments nurture the art of doing one's personal best with their martial arts and life skills rather than emphasizing competition. The Samurai Tournament which is open to all Samurai students will be Saturday, October 24th from 4-6pm. We will not be doing a Power Ninja tournament until early 2016. Get more details and register HERE .

PARENT'S NIGHT OUT - Samurai kids - Saturday, October 10th
A fun-filled evening for kids in 2nd-5th grade (younger siblings in 1st grade OK too) with your hosts Sensei Tommy and Deven.  Activities, martial arts, movies and more! Open to current, former and future students! Get all the details and register HERE .

WHEN DO STUDENTS GET A NEW BELT?
At the lower belt levels, students get a new belt about every 3 months. Parents of students testing will be notified by email in advance of the testing day. Classes up through Samurai level have belt testing at the end of almost every month, whereas the Teen/Adult class does belt testing every 7 weeks. Students who come to class the week of testing who aren't getting a new belt get a stripe of black tape on their existing belt. As students progress up the color scale it does begin to be longer in between belts and be a little more challenging to get the next belt.  Unsure of when your child will be testing or think it's been too long since they last tested? Just email Jeff and we will let you know! [email protected]

DOJO ETIQUETTE - We appreciate your help maximizing the comfort of all our parents during class
While we do have signs up, we also occasionally like to remind folks about a few simple rules for the dojo to help keep it safe, clean and enjoyable for all while minimizing the disruption to classes.
  1. Please exit our dojo to make or take phone calls
  2. Please keep volumes off on all electronics (or use headphones)
  3. Food or drink is fine in the seating area, but not on our training mats (please let us know ASAP of any spills)
  4. If a sibling in the waiting area becomes excessively noisy or disruptive, please take them out of the dojo (the playground downstairs by Austin's Pizza is a great place for siblings to wait for their brother/sisters class to be over)
  5. Please use quiet voices for conversations. Not only is it distracting for other parents in the waiting area but the noise easily travels into the training area and can be quite disruptive and distracting to the class in session.
  6. Please only arrive within 5 minutes of class time. It helps our parking lot and seating area to stay in the river!

LOST AND FOUND - Missing your stuff?
Our lost and found bins are full yet again. If you are missing gear, apparel, personal items or karate belts, please check there ASAP. The bins will be emptied on Friday, October 9th. Also know we do our best to notify parents and students of gear that is labeled, so we always suggest labeling all Life Ki-do items!

P.S. Our Referral Program: Referrals from happy Life Ki-do families are the #1 way we reach new students. For any new students you bring us outside of your immediate family, we will automatically give them $50 off their registration fee, and we will also give you $50 Life Ki-do credit (can be used towards tuition, merchandise or gear, camp or any other program we have).  We appreciate you supporting all that we do.
