1. Introduction
       By Jeff Taylor, CEO
In this issue, we'll share updates on the Drone Data Management System™, new research initiatives, regulatory updates, and news from ourselves and our partners.

As the drone industry continues to evolve, we need to be one step ahead to provide the products you need to be successful. DDMS™, the E386, and the E384 were all born out of conversations with customers. We are, as always, in the process of improving existing products and building new ones. As you start or expand your drone fleet, feel free to tell us exactly what you need to make drones work for your application. We can't add every new feature, but we are a lot more responsive to your requests than you might think. Go ahead and give it a try!

2. Drone Data Management System Update

The Event 38 Drone Data Management System™  is our All-in-One Storage, Sharing and Analysis Platform. It works with drones from any manufacturer.

DDMS offers the broadest array of industrial analysis
tools and supports imagery from any drone.
New Features:

Map Viewer is now more powerful than ever. New custom legends to help you read data layers like NDVI and DEM, and the new point query tool lets you read off exact values of NDVI and DVI anywhere on the map. Finally, choose to view your map overlaid on either a street map or Google Maps Satellite imagery, to help verify placement.
Cutting Edge Image Analysis Research
Event 38 has developed a proprietary crack detection algorithm based on optical analysis of high resolution drone imagery. We are currently looking for partners with relevant applications such as infrastructure inspection. Read more on Droneyard and contact us for more information.
3. Regulatory Issues
Notice to USA Drone Owners  -
In December, 2015 the FAA introduced mandatory registration of all drones, both new and previously purchased. If you own a drone you must register your drone before first flight or face stiff penalties and possible civil and criminal penalties. Click here for more information.
USA Commercial Drone Regulations (known as Part 107) are now in effect. You do not need specific approval for the E384 or E386, you only need to pass the Remote Pilot Knowledge Test administered by the FAA
Be sure you comply with all rules in Part 107 when flying in US Airspace:
  • Maximum weight: 55 pounds.
  • Maximum altitude: 400 feet above ground level
  • Maximum speed: 87 knots/100 mph.
  • Drone operator must pass a test, be approved by the TSA, and be at least 16 years old
  • Daytime operation only
  • Minimum weather visibility of 3 miles from control station
  • Operation may only be conducted within the visual line of sight.
  • Can only fly over people who are participating in the operation.
  • No airworthiness certificate is required but operator must complete a pre-flight checklist.
To learn more about Part 107 and to register as a Remote Pilot, see the FAA's Part 107 page.
Meeting Regulatory Requirements
For locations with aircraft visibility requirements, we are now able to outfit the E384 and E386 with powerful strobe lights placed on top and at the wing tips. Various colors and layouts are available.
4. Event 38 and Partner News
  • Phoenix Drone Services completes a ground breaking project in the remote Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Using an E384 and FLIR Vue Pro, they detected and located illegal brush fires in a sensitive national forest. See their video here.

  • New Sensor Options: Event 38 now offers several new sensors with the E384 and E386. The QX1 camera's unique form factor and weight allow you to cover more area than ever in each flight. This is the go-to camera for large mapping jobs. The Parrot Sequoia, in stock now, is the most compact multispectral camera
available today, and it includes a standard 16MP RGB camera as well!
