Lafayette Partners in Education (LPIE) invites you to their annual Business Partner Appreciation Event today, October 10, from 4:30pm-6pm at the LPIE offices - 3450 Golden Gate Way. Enjoy treats from California Pizza Kitchen and Smitten. Lafayette Partners in Education (LPIE) is a community-based education foundation run by parent volunteers working to enhance and expand the educational opportunities for students in Lafayette's six public schools: Burton Valley, Happy Valley, Lafayette and Springhill Elementary Schools, Stanley Middle School and Acalanes High School. We'll walk through the basics of DIY Facebook advertising so you can decide if it's worth trying to use it for your local business. Speaker: Robin S. Fox, Digital Strategist. Admission is free but registration is requested. All workshops are held from 6-7:30pm (check-in begins 5:50) in the Homework Center at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

Sunday, October 22, 2017
5k Certified Run 8:00am, 10k Certified Run 8:15am, 2mi fun run/walk 8:45am. On-site registration opens at 6:30am. Live music, pancake breakfast, and Healthy Lifestyles Fair!

Happy Valley Huskies won the registration contest with the most registered runners as of midnight on October 7th. Springhill Scorpions won the volunteer signups. Congratulations to both schools as they will receive separate check just for winning the contests.
NOW onto the next contest as there is an additional $500 check to be issued to the school that finishes race day with the most registrations. Register today to make your registration count!

Assemblywoman Baker is hosting a women's health event in partnership with John Muir Health called Women's Wellness 101. The event is on Monday, October 16th from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Ball Auditorium at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. "Kicking off the Holiday Season" Canned Food Drive: Oct 16 - 27
This fall, RecycleSmart with Republic Services is partnering with the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano to collect food for people in our community who may not have enough to eat. Your donation makes a real difference to people in our community who may not have enough to eat. Please drop off any canned food you would like to donate in the labeled barrels at the locations listed here between October 16-27.

$1500 Waste Reduction Grant is Now Accepting Applications
Republic Services will award a community waste reduction project within the RecycleSmart service area with a $1,500 grant. Projects must be related to recycling, composting or other waste-reduction initiatives. These can be new projects or existing projects that need some help expanding. Applications are now open - please complete the online application form by October 20. www.ContraCostaRecycles.com.

Contra Costa County Strategic Prevention Plan

Come join fellow Lamorinda community members on October 19 from 5:30-7:45 to help with the creation of the 2018-2023 Contra Costa County Strategic Prevention Plan. The plan dictates where the County's  prevention efforts will be focused when it comes to reducing underage substance use and prescription drug misuse and abuse.
