SERMON SERIES AND BIBLE STUDIES

BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING
Our Stewardship Season is in full swing! This year we've gone above and beyond to provide each family in the congregation with a full picture of the financial life of the congregation so that you can make an informed and faithful decision about how you will share your time, talents, and treasures with FCCLG. This multifaceted and wide scoped approach includes
* a sermon series;
* Bible study offered on Thursdays both in the afternoons and again over supper at Al's Charhouse;
* time and talent surveys for every member of the family.
Join us as we journey together to grow in faithful living.

October 19: "Living in the Key of G" Mark 10:17- 31
We are called to respond to God's love as a gift of grace. This grace requires us to live each day in gratitude for God's grace and with a spirit that calls us to be generous to God and others with our time, our talent. Our call is to be in a right relationship with God.

October 21 at 3 p.m. in the Drawing Room, and
October 22 at 6 p.m. at Al's Charhouse, 32 S La Grange Rd, La Grange
October 26: "All in All" Mark 12:28-34
There is a certain comfort in having the Great Commandment as a core principle to help put things in right order and perspective. Loving God with all I've got and loving my neighbor as myself is at once simple and complex and it shows forth differently for each of us.

October 28 at 3 p.m. in the Drawing Room, and
October 29 at 6 p.m. at Al's Charhouse, 32 S La Grange Rd, La Grange
November 2 - All Saints Day: "We are So Blessed" Matthew 5:1-3
Blessed are the poor. Blessed are the poor in spirit. Really? How we express our gratitude toward the companions on the way who have nurtured us in the faith journey reflect deeply of how we accept the blessings of God.

November 4 at 3 p.m. in the Drawing Room, and
November 5 at 6 p.m. at Al's Charhouse, 32 S La Grange Rd, La Grange
November 9 - Consecration Sunday: "Be Thou My Vision" Mark 12:38-44
Anger, fear, resentment, envy, guilt, worry. Many of us have these strong feelings about money and frequently don't talk about it at all. Jesus spoke about money all the time, asking us to examine its power so we can give our faith and our lives over to God.

Message in Music

CHRISTMAS MUSIC REGISTRATION is open.  We will be performing The Legend of the Christmas King on December 14 at 10am.  All children K-8th are welcome to participate.  K-1st graders are welcome to do the "limited participation" where they come to fewer rehearsals.  Toddlers also have a part to play!  Registration forms and schedules are available from Sylvia or Ryan.  Please return registration forms to Sylvia or Ryan by October 26.  The musical is open to all children - no fee for FCCLG members, $25 for non-members.

CHORAL SERMON REHEARSALS are happening on Thursdays from 7:30-8:30 pm. If singing with the choir every Sunday morning hasn't been possible, this is your time to sing with the fabulous people in blue. The Choral Sermon will be during worship on December 21 and will be several shorter works, mostly in English, but based on German tunes such as Es ist ein Ros' Entsprungen, Vom Himmel Hoch and Gelobet Seist Du. To hear the tunes, search for them on www.Hymnary.org.

TOWER CHORALE
Enjoy singing? The Tower Chorale is beginning preparations for its Christmas concert, Feliz Navidad - a Concert of Holiday Warmth, at the Grand Avenue Community Center, 4211 Grand Avenue, Western Springs, and would love to have you join.
Rehearsals are from 7:15 to 9:25 p.m. each Monday night beginning October 6, 2014. The first two rehearsals are open rehearsals for singers to try us out. The concerts will be held Friday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 7, at 3:00 p.m., at Holy Trinity Church, 111 S, Cass Avenue, Westmont. Please see our website, www.towerchorale.org, or call Janet Potts, 630-769-6162, for more information.

Ministries and Groups

COOKIE AND COFFEE COLLECTION

The Ministry of Nurture asks that you bring a package of cookies and/or a can of regular coffee (not decaf) to the Founder's Room before or after church on October 26th.  These supplies will be used for Coffee Hours during the winter season.  It's a great way to support our fellowship time.

BRIDGE CLUB

The church bridge club begins playing this month and we are looking for new members.  We play for fun, so no particular skill level is required.  If you would like to join us, whether or not you have a partner, contact Doris Bryant at [email protected] or 708-352-3034.  We'll try to find a partner for you if you need one.

FLOWER DONATIONS

Is there a special anniversary or date coming up? We have several Sundays available for altar flower donations. See the calendar in the Founder's Room for open dates.

OUT AND ABOUT

The Ministry of Nurture is planning a new Out and About event before church on Sunday, November 9th.  Meet us for coffee or breakfast any time after 8:00 am at Bakers Square on La Grange Road.  Hope you can join us!

BOOK CLUB

Book Club will discuss People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks on Thursday, October 30th  at 7:30 pm. Inspired by the true story of a mysterious codex known as the Sarajevo Haggadah, People of the Book is a sweeping adventure through five centuries of history.

SATURDAY MEALS PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS

Every Saturday, the Saturday Meals Program serves a hot breakfast at 8 am, hot lunch at noon, and a take home sack meal.  It takes a whole community to make the Saturday Meals Program a success. If you can volunteer your time serving food, cooking, washing dishes, or talking with the guests, please contact volunteer coordinator Beth Colby by email at [email protected].

Our St. Barbara's Food Pantry collection item for October will be canned meats - things like chili (with and without beans), beef stew, and spaghetti.
