"Music with Dara"
Fridays, October 3 and November 7 at 10:45 AM
For children, 18 months - 5 years old. 

"Who's Watching You? Owls of the World"
Tuesday, October 7 from 4 - 5 PM
For children 6 and up. Meet six lively (and live!) owls from New England. Also includes a hooting lesson and tips on how to attract and protect owls. No registration needed.

"Fall Story Times" 
~ Session I, for ages 2 - 3 � years, Mondays at 10:30 AM
~ Session II*, for ages 3 � - 5 years, Mondays at 11:15 PM
* Please register in advance for Session II.

"Tales for Tots"
Wednesdays at 10:30 AM
Infant to 24 months, with a parent or caregiver.

"A Spooktacular Hallowe'en Encounter"
Thursday, October 23 at 3:30 PM
For kids age 6 - 11. Ghastly stories and gruesome activities! Costumes welcome, but optional. Please register in advance - if you dare!

Weekend Hours Expand in October
Couple Reading
Sunday hours at the main library will resume as of Sunday, October 5, 2014. The library will be open on Sundays from 1-5 PM until Memorial Day weekend 2015. Saturday hours at the Farms branch (10 AM-5 PM) will resume as of Saturday, October 4, 2014 and will also continue until Memorial Day weekend 2015.
October 2, 2014:
"Murder, Mayhem and Money"
Calling all mystery enthusiasts! Mystery and crime novels are the most popular genre of fiction today. What is their long-lasting appeal? How do mystery writers take a simple story and turn it into a frightening, thrilling, confusing and enthralling book? Come find out at the main library on Thursday, October 2 when mystery authors Susan Oleksiw, Brendan DuBois, Tempa Pagel, J. E. Seymour, and Amy Ray visit for a fun and educational panel discussion, Q & A, and book signing. The event runs from 7 - 8:30 PM in the Sohier Room. Free, no signup needed. Refreshments. Library Closed for Columbus Day
The main library and the Farms branch will be closed for the Columbus Day holiday on Monday, October 13, 2014. 
Friends Fall Book Sale & Preview
Shopping Bag
Our annual Friends of the Beverly Public Library Fall Book Sale starts Saturday, November 15 and runs through Sunday, November 23, 2014. Paperbacks and all children's books will be $1 and hard covers $2. A smaller selection of DVDs, VHS, music, and audio books will also be available. Find additional details here

Members of our Friends can preview the book sale on Friday, November 14 from 6 - 8 PM. Not yet a member? Pay (or renew) at the door! Memberships start at just $15. Cash and checks accepted. Learn more about the Friends here

"It's Not About the Hike"

If it's not about the hike...then what is it about? Nancy Sporborg and Pat Piper are two 50-plus-year-old women who started walking the sidewalks of Keene, NH, and ended up climbing the 100 highest mountains in New England. They thought they were just going out for a hike when they climbed their first mountain, but they were wrong - they were beginning the journey of a lifetime. Nancy and Pat visit the main library on Sunday, November 9 to tell their extraordinary story. Read more here

Briscoe Middle School students, look for Allison sometime in October during her annual visit to make sure every eligible student has a library card!

Gallery Opening: Summer Reading Exhibit
Tuesday, October 7, 6:30-8 PM, Sohier Room
This October, the Sohier Room will host an art display that brings the 2014 Summer Reading experience of Beverly teens to life. The students produced creative responses to the books they read, including drawings, posters, paintings, dioramas, songs, and more. Celebrate the opening of the art exhibit and enjoy some light refreshments! (Open to all ages!)

Beverly High School's inaugural session of the Film and Arts Retrospectives for Teens. Teens are invited to join us for a movie of the club's choosing; title to be announced shortly. Movie rating may be (up to and including) PG-13.

"Monster Story Time" 
with Local Author Paul Czajak
Saturday, October 18 at 10 AM
Please click here to register. Come hear Mr. Czajak read his books Monster Needs a Costume and Monster Needs His Sleep. A monster activity will follow the reading. Participants are encouraged to come in costume! Books will be available for purchase.

"Musical Mornings with Miz Liz" will be back on Saturday, October 11 at 10:30 AM. Thank you to the Friends of the Beverly Public Library for sponsoring this program!

Fall Story Times (through the week of November 2; registration not needed):
  • "Books and Babies": Tuesdays at 9:30 AM and Wednesdays at 10 AM
  • Toddler Story Times: Tuesdays at 10:30 and 11:15 AM and Wednesdays at 9:15 AM
  • Pre-School: Wednesdays at 10:45 AM and Thursdays at 1:15 PM

3-D Printer Workshop 
Join us at the main library on Monday, October 20 for an introduction to the basics of working with a MakerBot Replicator, Fifth generation, and to downloading and designing objects using Thingiverse, Tinkercad and SketchUp. Feel free to bring your laptop! A free version of SketchUp is available on the SketchUp website
