Welcome

Being able to follow two meaningful paths, both heart-centered:  body psychotherapy and music, is a source of great joy.  Each path has its own treasures, but when the two can be integrated, it is a special treat!

On Saturday, November 14, I will be offering a workshop on the Power of Voice at the Natural Living Expo in Marlboro, MA.  This workshop integrates body psychotherapy and music, since "voice" is a journey of finding and expressing who we really are from the soul level up.  This issue includes an article on Finding Our True Voice.

Scullers show favorite

The Heart to Heart CD Release Concert at Scullers Jazz Club was a true joy!  People from lots of different communities gathered for an evening of music from the heart.    Huge thanks to my fabulous band: Bonnie MacLeod (piano), Miki Matsuki (drums), Geoff Wadsworth (tenor sax), Dave Birkin (flute, tenor sax, guitar and clarinet), Greg Holt (bass) and Junko Fujiwara (cello), and guest vocalists Claire McFarland and Sheryl Altman!!!  Thanks to Bob Bond for some really great photos of the show!

A fun new musical project is a Carole and Carly show, collaborating with my sister in song, Sheryl Altman.  We were both gifted with hair that looks like one of the two singers, so why not embrace it and turn it into a musical show!  We will be performing at the First Monday event at Club Cafe in Boston on May 1.

You can order a copy of Heart to Heart

on Amazon and on CD Baby.  It is also on iTunes.

Bonnie MacLeod and I had the privilege of performing a song on Dale LePage's wonderful tv show, This is the Nightlife.  Dale's mom (the lady in red) is one of the highlights of this truly delightful show!  Thanks Dale for bringing together great people and great music!

Finding Our True Voice

We live in a culture that teaches us to be quiet and not speak up from an early age.  Children are taught to "be seen but not heard."  When a parent or teacher feels a child is taking up too much space, they are often told to be quiet or more crudely, to "shut up."  These kinds of messages stifle our hearts and souls and keep us from growing and evolving into a true, purposeful and happy self.

In reality, not only do we need to find our voice to fully express and connect with self and others, but also others need to hear what we have to say to connect with self and others as well.

Here are 8 things we need to find our true voice:

1.  Emotional safety:  When emotional safety is present, we can feel and access our deeper sensations, emotions and thoughts.  Emotional safety allows us to drop our defenses and dig deep into the root of who we are. When we are in touch with that deeper sense somatically and emotionally, voice, including words, follow.

Music Notes

Music is such a source of great joy, and is a universal language to connect people heart-to-heart. In addition to my own musical gigs,   I also participate in many of the wonderful open mics and other musical events available to local singers:

Amazing Things Arts Center organized by Leslie Holmes
Many BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) singers perform in a monthly open mic.  This month, it is October 14 at 7 pm.

BACA (Boston Association of Cabaret Artists) Open Mics in Watertown (next one is Wednesday, October 28 at 7 pm at UU Church in Watertown)

Club Café in Boston has many open mics hosted by a wonderful variety of singers and pianists in its Napoleon Room.

The Winiker Band  brings their unique joyous musical flavor to Brothers Restaurant in Brookline, MA on Saturday nights.  Singers are welcome.

What is EKP?
EKP is Emotional-Kinesthetic Psychotherapy, a heart-centered, body-centered psychotherapy method Linda Marks developed and has taught and practiced for nearly twenty years. Working with the heart, touch with permission, the wisdom of the body and the intuitive guidance of the spirit, EKP creates a special sense of intimacy that deeply touches and transforms most all who participate.

Participants can be "client," witness or helper as an individual group member has a "turn" to do deeper heart-centered, body-centered psychospiritual work in the center. Since the electromagnetic field of the heart extends out 10 - 12 feet from our bodies, as we go deeper and open our hearts, we are all touched.

EKP helps restore our capacity as organs of perception. The skin is our largest organ, and a source of soul deep knowing, perception and expression. When our hearts and hands can work as one, we move beyond defenses safely and respectfully and find freedom, connection and expression.

Emotional safety is the foundation of EKP.  When we are emotionally safe, we are more aware of feelings, sensations and deeper thoughts in our bodies and hearts.  You will have a chance to listen to and care for your heart as you help create and hold a safe healing space for everyone's heart.  Experience what we mean when we say that in EKP, "when anyone has a turn, everyone has a turn."

I welcome dialogue and comments on my articles through my blog: HealingHeartPower.blogspot.com   It is user friendly, and even something you can subscribe to.
