Harvesting Seeds of Hope

Ripples of Hope is a nonprofit organization that engages diverse groups of families in local and global service journeys. Through service, Ripples families delve into the heart of communities by working side-by-side with community residents and leaders on transformational and sustainable service projects. The goal of
Harvesting Seeds of Hope
is to provide an opportunity for residents of the Pine Street Inn - Paul Sullivan Housing Unit located in Jamaica Plain to learn the basics of growing and harvesting fresh vegetables, the importance of fresh produce in maintaining a healthy diet, and to provide an opportunity for residents to connect with their surrounding community. Pine Street Inn partners with homeless individuals to help them move from the streets and shelter to a home and assists formerly homeless individuals in retaining housing. Harvesting Seeds of Hope volunteers will have the opportunity to help maintain and harvest the garden side by side with residents. Once finished in the garden volunteers will move inside to participate in the weekly arts and crafts activity.
Ages: All ages are welcome but an accompanying guardian or parent must supervise children.
Time Commitment: Two hours a week (families can sign up for one or more weeks)

Food Distribution at Belmont Food Pantry
Belmont Food Pantry
Date/Time: Distribution days are held on:
- 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, 8:30 - 9:30am
- 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, 5:30 - 6:30pm
Location: 1010 Pleasant St, Belmont
The Belmont Food Pantry Inc. depends entirely on volunteers! Volunteers are needed to help on distribution days to help sort, shelve, and distribute food.
Ages: All ages welcome but children under 12 must be supervised and must work with an accompanying adult
Time Commitment: One hour per shift. Most jobs are a small bi-monthly time commitment, yet very important to keeping the Belmont Food Pantry running and serving those in need.

Farm at a CSA Farm
Stearns Farm CSA
Date/Time: Saturday, October 8, 9:30am -12:30pm
Location: 862 Edmands Rd, Framingham
Stearns Farm offers opportunities to learn about growing food by getting your hands in the soil. Working at Stearns Farm is a great way to learn about the growing cycles of different crops. Depending on the season you may spend time seeding, planting, weeding, and mulching. Volunteers will be planting vegetables and doing a variety of farm work tasks. It is strongly suggested that volunteers wear long pants and bring a bottle of water due the physical nature of the work. An orientation to the farm and tasks that day will occur at 9:45am. Please note that cell phones are not allowed on the farm, so volunteers should keep them with their cars/other belongings. Also, there are no trash facilities at the farm. Whatever is brought in must be carried out.
Ages: All ages welcome but children must be supervised and each child accompanied by an adult.
Time Commitment: Three hours

Family Table Distribution
Jewish Family & Children's Services
Date/Time: Sunday, October 9, 9am - 1:30pm
Location: 1430 Main Street, Waltham
Family Table provides healthy food on a monthly and emergency basis to individuals and families in need. Their mission is to offer food in a way that meets nutritional and spiritual needs. Family Table serves more than 100 towns across Greater Boston, the North Shore, and the South Area. Currently, Family Table is helping more than 400 families each month with groceries and connections to other services. Volunteers are needed to help with the following tasks:
- Set-up the pantry
- Sort food donations
- Package orders for recipient families
- Deliver food to recipients
Ages: All ages are welcome and encouraged to volunteer when accompanied by an adult.
Time Commitment: One to four hours depending on the activity.

Sort & Inspect Food
Greater Boston Food Bank
Date/Time: Saturday, October 15, 9:30am - noon
Location: 70 South Bay Avenue, Boston
Volunteers are needed to help the Greater Boston Food Bank to inspect, sort, and box food to be sent to 600+ hunger relief agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, etc.). With volunteer efforts, the Food Bank can feed more than 87,000 hungry people per week.
Ages: Children older than eight are encouraged to attend. An adult must supervise all children. This project can be physically tiring.
Time Commitment: Two to three hours

Park Restoration and Cleanup

Date/Time: Saturday, October 22, 9am - noon (other dates are also available)
Location: Hatch Shell, Boston
These horticulture and conservation projects are specially designed to accommodate kids and families! We'll be doing some heavy lifting but also light gardening tasks, suitable for kids five and older with adult supervision. All we ask for this project is that you sign up with at least one other person -- child, parent, friend, or colleague! Bring hats, water bottles, and appropriate clothing.
Ages: Children five and older are encouraged to attend with an accompanying adult.
Time Commitment: Two to three hours
