Passionate believers... confessing Christ for the next generation
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

What are your plans?
Just as we thought, right? The fall season is fully upon us now and we have a ripe crop of things to do, to plan and to budget for. And as sure as the sun rises, the unexpected surprises will pop up and completely change our schedules.

As the new Church Year unfolds, where will the time go? And what will have been accomplished by the time we celebrate Pentecost?

Of course, man proposes and God disposes and maybe some of those "surprises" will become our biggest sources of accomplishment in the end. So as you plan, keep your eyes open for a new thought, a different idea, and another way to reach out of that proverbial box. It keeps life interesting, and offers benefits beyond our imagination!
May God put His blessings on all of your plans for the coming year.

Give me a call if you'd like to get connected to one of our mission partners, or if you need some more information about one of the items below.

Equipping to Share: Everyday Evangelism

Learn to overcome fear and to effectively share your faith within three different relationship models: brief encounters, close relationships, and in times of crisis.

On Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
, Lutheran Hour's Mission-U will present MU-101 at St. John Lutheran Church, N7074 County Road V, Horicon (Brown's Corners), 53032. A light lunch will be served and a free will offering is requested.

Sponsored by the Men's Club of St. John's, you are invited to join with our brothers and sisters in Christ at St. John's for this Workshop on sharing Jesus every day. This is a special event for St. John's as they are celebrating their 150th Anniversary this year and are taking the time to remember God's blessings for all these years in this way.

New website for SWD's LWML

A brand new website for the South Wisconsin District-LWML is now available at lwml-swd.org. Among the new features you will find that the Mission tab will give you a sketch of all the 2016-2018 mission grants and some new charts showing their mite contributions. This is also where you will find other mission opportunities.

Take a minute to peruse their new site and become acquainted with their easy-to-use tabs and links. "It's a good thing!"
Free at Last - ministry support night at Divine Shepherd, Milwaukee

Rev. Afam Ikanih extends a warm invitation to join him as the contemporary Christian band, Heart of Worship, leads you in a night of praise, worship and testimony. A wide variety of contemporary Christian music will be played that brings a clear message of our Risen Savior and his redemptive love.

The service will be on Saturday, October 29, at 6:00 p.m. at Divine Shepherd, 9741 W. Beloit Rd., Milwaukee. This evening will be in support of Free at Last, a ministry devoted to serving those who are, or have been incarcerated, by caring for their spiritual, physical and emotional needs. Refreshments and fellowship will follow.

Rev. Afam Ikanih is the LCMS Chaplain at Milwaukee County House of Correction (HOC). He will share his vision of hope in Jesus Christ as "the only means to turn these earthly ties into eternal life with the Savior of all people."

There will be an in-gathering of Wish List items (please see below). If you have any of these items you are welcome to bring them with you that night or arrange for Rev. Ikanih to pick them up at a future date.

Baptismal font - Update!

The baptismal font that was offered last month has been picked up and is getting ready for use once again! Rev. Afam Ikanih, Chaplain at the House of Correction in Franklin, will be placing it in the chapel there as a permanent fixture. As Ikanih is often heard to say, "God is good ... all the time!" Many inmates are touched by the Holy Spirit as Ikanih tells them of the freedom we have in Jesus Christ, and are baptized. May this font be a vehicle of God's grace in the water and His Word!
"The Disturbances" -- a film that recalls missionaries in action!

"The Disturbances,"
is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the role that Christian missionaries played saving lives in Nigeria in 1966. Christian missionaries of various denominations, including many of our own LCMS missionaries, were working in the country when tribal killing followed military coups.

Missionaries from the LCMS played a key role in ministering to the people of Nigeria during this internal crisis. This is the first time Lutherans will have the opportunity to witness what happened on the Nigerian mission field 50 years ago.

Carl Eisman, retired principal of Martin Luther High School, was one of those LCMS missionaries who served there in the mid-60s. He helped to narrate this film that will be screened on October 24 at Hales Corners Lutheran, 12300 W. Janesville Rd., Hales Corners, WI 53130 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. You are invited to attend, and bring your family and friends!
