News You Need to Know
FACILITIES UPDATES FOR OUR COMMUNITY

It is a busy time for our Facilities Department and we wanted to provide the community an update on the specific projects happening around our district.

E-5 K-8 School

In October, the Facilities Department will be presenting to the Board of Trustees the first look at the elevations and proposed color selections for the E-5 school site/park campus. This will be the first time the elevation drawings will be shown to the Board and the community. The design of the E-5 site is based on the design of Amador Elementary School and will have a very similar look. The color palette for the school will be based on the housing in the community around the school.

In addition, district Facilities staff will be meeting with the City of Dublin to determine the process for name the joint school/city park site.

DHS Engineering and Science Building/Interim Housing

Also scheduled for this month, the Facilities Department will be presenting a cost and schedule update for the DHS Engineering and Science Building.

Interim Housing will also be addressed with the Trustees with information presented on cost and a review of the schedule.

Second High School

The vetting process of potential sites identified by the Board continues. The Facilities Department is on track to present the results of this vetting process to the Board in November at a meeting date still to be determined. We will keep the community informed about this upcoming date.

BREAKING GROUND ON OUR NEWEST SCHOOL!
Flanked by bulldozers and backhoes, members of the Dublin Unified School District Board of Trustees and the Dublin City Council marked the groundbreaking of the E-5 K-8 School and Park site on Monday.

The 10-acre site, located in the Jordan Ranch Development, will be home to a K-8 school site as well as city park facilities. The as-yet-unnamed school is scheduled to open to students in the fall of 2018.

"This is a great day for the City of Dublin," said Dublin Unified Board President Dan Cunningham. "This is an important example of the partnership we have between the City Council and the Board of Trustees. We are breaking ground today on a brand-new facility that will provide the community a beautiful new school and a great park."

Dublin Unified Superintendent Dr. Leslie Boozer also hailed the partnership between the City and the District.

"We are very grateful for the City's collaboration on this project, which came to fruition thanks to hard work and shared commitment to the community's best interests," Dr. Boozer said. "This school/park site is important to our growing district as we move forward and continue to offer the students of Dublin an outstanding education in state-of-the-art facilities. We are excited for construction to begin."

The project represents a significant partnership between the Dublin Unified School District and the City of Dublin. The City of Dublin and the District completed an agreement last spring, in which the City agreed to joint use of the site, previously designated as a park, with the District for use as a school. The City and the District also executed joint-use agreements for facilities on the site as well as other district facilities, including the Dublin High School Center for Performing Arts and Education. This type of collaboration mutually benefits the City and the District, maximizes resources, and provides great service to the residents of Dublin.

The Ground Lease agreement in place allows the district to lease the site from the City for the amount of $1 per year for 99 years.

DHS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL HAVING RECORD-SETTING SEASON!

The Dublin High girls varsity volleyball are experienced, confident and having perhaps the best season in program history.
The Gaels started the season 16-0 and took an 18-1 record in last Thursday's road match against Foothill. The team, currently in second place in league play and ranked No. 2 in NCS Division I, has captured the interest of the community, who are filling the Dublin High Sports Complex to cheer them on as they make a bee-line for the North Coast Section playoffs in a few weeks.
Head coach Amy Lopez said the team members have been playing together for years, and that chemistry has contributed to their success.
"They haven't had to worry about getting to know one another," Lopez said of her squad, which includes five seniors and three juniors, all of whom played on varsity last season. "There's definitely some pressure on them because of the record. People want to knock us off now. Before, I think people though it would be easy to play Dublin. But not anymore."
Senior captain Hailey Bruce said that team members are walking down the halls at school and being stopped by people who came to watch them play.
"The community support has been great," Bruce said. "We are just playing our game right now, and we want to step up our game even more."
The Gaels will play two matches in East Bay Athletic League play next week, traveling to Livermore High on Tuesday and then playing at home against Granada on Thursday.
Go Gaels!
