This 1.5 day workshop, taking place at the INOVA Center for Personalized Health, presents an in depth guide to writing a compelling NIH SBIR/STTR proposal.  The NIH has over $800M available each year via SBIR/STTR, funding early stage, high risk research on projects that have a high potential to make a big impact. The NIH SBIR/STTR programs have three deadlines per year:  April 5, Sept. 5, and Jan. 5.  Learn how to plan, engage with the NIH, and begin to write a compelling and compliant proposal. This event is especially useful for those targeting the January 5, 2018 SBIR/STTR deadlines. 
 
Attendees will also have the ability to apply for a special "Phase 0 SBIR/STTR Grant" of up to $2,500 that can be used to hire an SBIR/STTR consultant to assist with proposal development for the Jan. 5 NIH SBIR/STTR submission. Application required - for Virginia-based firms and university spin-outs only. Restrictions apply. While funding lasts.
 
Event will be taught by BBC ETC, one of the leading SBIR consulting firms in the US.

Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program (CSIIP)
The Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC), a longtime CIT partner, links students and companies at no charge to either students or employers. Companies pay the interns; fields of employment include IT, Information Security, Big Data, Data Analytics, Aerospace and Cybersecurity.  VSGC recruits potential employers throughout the year; interns are students at Virginia universities or are from Virginia and are studying at an out-of-state school. Interns are available during the summer, fall, and spring. Although many CSIIP employers are medium or large organizations with established internship programs, that is not required. Dept. of Energy SBIR/STTR Delays
The DOE SBIR/STTR FY 2018 Phase I Release 1 Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), which was scheduled to be issued on Monday, August 14, 2017, continues to be delayed.  However, we anticipate that this FOA will be issued in October.  When it is issued, the other FOA-associated dates, such as the Letter of Intent and Application due dates will be updated. DOE SBIR Planning -- Tutorials
The DOE SBIR/STTR Phase I Release 1 Funding Opportunity Announcement, which was originally scheduled to be issued Monday, August 14, 2017, is delayed pending completion of the internal DOE administrative review process. We will notify you when the Funding Opportunity Announcement has been issued. You can still start some preparation for your submission though, including special tutorial on Required Registrations and How to Prepare a Letter of Intent.

DOD SBIR/STTR Changes Time of Proposal Submission Deadline
DOD has changed the SBIR/STTR proposal deadline to 8PM on Oct. 25, 2017.  This is a change from the last several years that had an early morning deadline.  Please note this new time.

The DOD began accepting proposals on September 26, 2017, and will close to proposals on October 25, 2017, at 8:00 p.m. ET. Plan ahead and submit your proposal early to avoid heavy traffic on the site during the final week.
