A
nd just like that, fall is here!
As we charge into our fall season we have two big things to look forward to. For those of you who have not yet marked your calendar, the Northern Nevada Real Estate Overview is on Thursday, October 4 at the Nugget Casino Resort, in Sparks, Nevada. We are counting on strong member attendance and word-of-mouth.
I truly want to thank the following individuals:
Paul R. Bruk, MAI, SRA, Benjamin Q. Johnson, MAI, Howard N. Stockton, Adrian L. Webster, MAI, AI-GRS, John S. Wright, MAI and Tina Anderson
for doing such a great job of pulling this together. This team has assembled a great panel with many knowledgeable participants.
Sign up today, the fee is low, appraisal and real estate CE is available, and the information will be very helpful to all appraisers.
For those of you in Southern Nevada, I should point out that October 4 is the start of the turning of the leaves. It might be worth your while to enjoy the northern Nevada landscape, get some continuing education, and get out of the heat. The drive up through central Nevada in the fall can be breathtakingly beautiful.
Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 25
th - CBRE, Inc and Robco Electric are sponsoring a

As we all know, the
2018 Las Vegas Market Symposium will be held on November 8 at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino. This has always been well attended with tremendous knowledge shared. Seven panels, consisting of some of the most knowledgeable real estate practitioners in Las Vegas. Dual continuing education is available for both the appraisal side and the real estate side.
The Nevada Chapter Board of Directors recently discussed educational offerings for next year. It is our belief that chapter-developed education can be the most relevant and interesting to the Nevada membership. To that end, we have discussed five possible 2-4-hour seminars and due to the amount of time it takes to develop for CE approval, we would like to move forward as soon as possible. Please take a couple of minutes to take a short survey on the seminar topics that we discussed at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QWRV7RW. If you have any additional ideas, please include them.
On a national front, the strategic planning committee and the governance structure project team continue their work to fine tune the restructuring proposal that was rolled out in 2017. The current mission statement: "our mission is to advance professionalism and ethics, global standards, methodologies and practices throughout the professional development of property economics worldwide." The most recent exposure was issued May 22, 2018. This document is focused on realignment of existing structure to clarify the optimal mix of services and delivery of those services. The document outlines the proposed structure of the Board of Directors, the national nominating committee as was the minimal criteria to be a board member. The recommendation is that the region structure be eliminated. The current document does not include any changes to the chapter structure and/or education delivery yet indicates that further discussion is required. I strongly recommend that members of the Nevada chapter of the appraisal Institute review all proposals and provide feedback to the committee.

As you are all likely aware, the Appraisal Institute has appointed Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS as the CEO of the Appraisal Institute. I have met with Jim several times and I think this is a good choice. He is very open to member input, and if you have an issue, send him an email. The president is James L Murrett, MAI, SRA. The incoming president for 2019 is Stephen S Wagner, MAI, SRA, AI-GRS.
