Foster an Animal
PAWS

Date/Time: Flexible. Some animals will need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for up to three months.

Location: 15305 44th Ave W, Lynnwood

PAWS foster families provide a temporary home for kittens, cats, puppies and dogs in need. These families provide food and care to homeless animals that are either too young or sick to be adopted. By taking an animal into your home on a temporary basis, you provide them with a safe place to rest and heal, while giving us additional time to find them a permanent home. By providing safe temporary homes, PAWS foster families prevent overcrowding at PAWS Companion Animal Shelter, while having lots of fun! Foster parent volunteers need to transport animals to PAWS in Lynnwood, WA on a regular basis for vaccinations, vet checks, weight checks and spay and neuter surgeries. Vaccination appointments and weigh-ins for kittens and puppies are scheduled every two weeks. Veterinarian appointments are scheduled as needed for each animal, generally every 7-14 days. Click here for more detailed information about fostering an animal.

Ages: An adult must be the primary caregiver but children and teens can help with foster animals in your home.

Time Commitment: Between two weeks and three months.

Help Fill the Ronald McDonald House Pantries!
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Washington & Alaska

Date/Time: Donations can be dropped off daily between 9am and 9pm.

Location: Seattle Ronald McDonald House, Building A, 5130 40th Avenue NE. There is a small parking lot and a drive through on the west side of the building where you can pull up and unload your donation.

The Seattle Ronald McDonald House has a House Pantry at both of our Houses that are filled with nonperishable goods and other necessities. Many of our families stay with us for months or even over a year while their child is being treated at Children's Hospital, and financial strain is a reality for most of our families. Families are encouraged to take items from the House pantry as needed, and individuals, families or groups donate nearly all of the goods in the Pantry. We maintain a list of updated needs on our website. Individuals are welcome to drop off donations whenever convenient. If you are planning a large donation, please call ahead so that we are prepared.

Ages: Everyone is welcome to participate

Environmental Service Projects
EarthCorps

Date/Time: Saturdays, 10am - 2pm (a few weekday events are also available)

Location: Seattle, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Tukwila, Tacoma, Federal Way, Shoreline and more. Check the EarthCorps calendar for weekly project locations.

Each year, EarthCorps leads more than 10,000 volunteers in environmental service projects in western Washington. While the exact tasks at hand vary, EarthCorps projects focus on improving the forests and parks in our local cities. Healthy and thriving forests are vital to our community because they absorb and naturally filter rain water, absorb toxins in the air, produce clean oxygen, provide living spaces for wildlife, and they create a place for people to connect with the outdoors. In order to help create healthy forests, we focus on removing aggressive weeds (like English Ivy or Himalayan Blackberry), maintaining areas where these weeds have been removed, and planting trees and shrubs during the rainy season. EarthCorps supplies gloves, tools, water, light refreshments, and volunteer education. EarthCorps will provide everything you need to know about tool use and safety, forest health, information on the park, and the importance of the work you'll be doing. No prior experience necessary, just come ready to learn something new!

For Your Safety And Comfort, Please Bring:
  • Sturdy, closed-toed shoes (work boots, hiking boots, rubber boots, or tennis shoes)
  • Clothing that can (and will) get dirty
  • Long pants and long sleeves to help protect against prickly plants
  • Rain gear and warm layers (check the weather!)
  • Sack lunch and snacks
  • Full water bottle
  • Travel mug for tea/coffee
Ages: Volunteers of all ages are welcome. The work is typically geared towards adults and children ages 10 and up, but younger children are welcome to participate. Parents of younger children should expect to supervise their children. A parent, guardian, or responsible adult must accompany youth under the age of 14. All volunteers between the ages of 14 and 17 who are not with a parent or guardian must bring a completed and signed Youth Waiver the day of the event.

Friendly Visitors for Seniors
Friend to Friend America

Date/Time: Ongoing

Location: Various Assisted Living, Adult Family and Group homes in the Greater Seattle area. Friend To Friend America matches volunteers in five Puget Sound counties: King, Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish, and Thurston.

Many of the 60,000 elderly and disabled persons living in a 'Home' in the Puget Sound area never have a special visitor. Living away from family and friends, they feel isolated and lonely, which leads to further physical and mental deterioration. Many are discouraged and depressed and have lost their will to live. Visits by a caring friend add a dimension that enriches and make the lives of seniors more meaningful. Friend to Friend America links volunteers with elder friends to promote social and emotional wellness for those living in extended-care communities.

Ages: Families with children are welcome to volunteer

Time Commitment: A minimum of two hours per month for a year
