Judy Freiberg, with the dog on the course, who rode with us for 18 holes in Farmington, Mo. ( All we had to do was give him a hot dog, and he was ours)   It was a little chilly - 45 Degrees that day.  This is the week before I came back to sunny Naples.

The Pink Flamingo was a beautiful South Florida golf day. We failed to win the cup, but what a great time we had with our friends from the Palm Beach Chapter. Yoga class kicked off this week. I noticed a couple of our members doing their pre-round poses. Dust off those witch hats and join us for the Witches Tea this WEDNESDAY at Boston Beer Garden. Our leagues will kick-off in less than 2 weeks.  Have you signed up? What are you waiting for?  And be sure your are registered for the Anuual Kickoff on November 20.  Have a great week!

11th Annual Flamingo Cup

The cup went home with the Palm Beach Chapter this year. But we had a great time with good friends and made a few new friends to boot! Thank you to Sharyl and Diane for putting this event together!

WITCHES TEA

In primitive society, when native tribes beat the ground with clubs and yelled, it was called witchcraft; today, in civilized society, it is called golf. One of our favorite social events! The Witches Tea is a fun opportunity to gather around the cauldron with your favorite witches.  In the "spirit" of Halloween, come dressed in your most festive witch costume for a chance to win fame and fortune. Your registration fee will cover a 3-entree dinner buffet, 2 drink tickets with free entry into the costume contest. Make plans to attend and invite a friend who might have interest in joining the chapter! We will be on the patio (weather permitting) casting spells, and lifting a chalice or two.

Costume contestants will be judged and determined by audience applause in the following categories: The Allison Gross Award (Ugliest Witch in the North Country), best Golf Themed Witch, and The Glenda Award (Good Witch).

Status of the Chapter Recruitment Challenge

  • The Challenge:  Every Chapter that gains at least 6 NEW members from September 1 through November 30 will be sent a package of logoed giveaways to share with your members.  That's just 2 each month!
  • The Southwest Florida Chapter is already a winner - they gained 8 new members in September!  Boise/Treasure Valley, ID is almost there too because they gained 4 new members last month!  Los Angeles, CA and Middle Tennessee each gained 3 new members, and 7 other Chapters met the monthly challenge by gaining 2 new members.
  • During September there were 34 Chapters who recruited new members.  Did your Chapter make the list?  Don't miss out on the Challenge!
Getting Older Does Have It's Rewards!

If you are going to be turning 65 within your EWGA Membership (but not necessarily the calendar) year, you can renew at the lower senior rate of $100 when your renewal comes due!  For example, if your membership is due for renewal on October 15th but you will turn 65 on March 20th, you are entitled to the lower renewal rate.  Just call Kate Moore 1-800-407-1477, ext. 10 at EWGA Member Services when you are ready to renew, and she will be happy to help!

Change of Address or Email?  Please make sure you inform us so that we can keep your profile up to date.  Our 123 Signup system is email, not name based, so it's important that you let us know of any changes so you won't have trouble registering for all the great events we have coming up!  Send an email with your changes to Barb Schanmier, Member Services Director.

Michele's Golf Tips
Don't let downhill lies baffle you.

Many golfers dread the downhill lie, as it is difficult if you do not use proper technique.  To play a downhill like, place the ball back in your stance and use one less club than you would normally use, as the ball will fly lower and farther.  Tilt your shoulders to match the slope of the hill to simulate a level lie.  Pick the club up on the backswing and come down on the ball, striking it first before you hit the turf.  Maintain your balance by keeping your weight braced on your front foot and keep your legs quiet during the swing.
