Perhaps unfortunately, my iPhone. Pretty sure I'm tethered to it during all waking hours.
My greatest accomplishment outside my profession:
Getting outside my comfort zone ... like riding my snowmobile across the ice bridge to Mackinac Island and conquering the XScream & BigShot! rides on top of the Stratosphere in Vegas.
The reason I got into advertising/marketing: 
When I was 5, my older sister started working in marketing and sales at Owens Corning. This is also about the time that I started writing ad copy for my dad's floor laying business. Both my dad and sister have always been strong supporters and role models for me.
Biggest influences on me professionally:
The experience of building and running a business for 13 years presented opportunities to overcome self-imposed limits, meet remarkable people and organizations, and do what I love. Today, working for a company that encourages entrepreneurial spirit and servant leadership continues to help me grow personally and professionally.
My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
Learning to carry a tune. My singing voice is one only a mother could love.
When nobody's looking, I like to:
Binge watch the original NCIS series on Netflix.
Best thing about being an AAF Toledo member:
The ability to bring my team to a variety of events that provide inspiration and education.

October has arrived and AAF Toledo is busy planning two of our most popular events of the year, The Internship Event and Our Favorite Things holiday luncheon.

The Internship Event will take place at the Hilton Garden Inn on Saturday, November 4 and will bring together students, professionals and prospective employers for a unique networking and educational experience. The Internship Event gives students the opportunity to engage with local professionals across the communications, marketing, public relations and media industries in a one-on-one and Q&A environment. The Internship Event is a collaborative effort by AAF Toledo, the Press Club of Toledo and PRSA Northwest Ohio. Registration is free for students and there are various business sponsorship opportunities available.

CALLING VENDORS to Eat, Drink and Be Merry at the AAF Toledo Our Favorite Things program on Wednesday, December 6 at the Hilton Garden Inn! We are looking for area retailers to showcase the season's hottest gift ideas at the annual holiday-themed luncheon. The fun afternoon features live entertainment, raffles, door prizes and goodie bags for attendees. To purchase tickets or for additional information about participating as a vendor, please contact director@aaftoledo.org.

Multicultural Diversity

Introducing the AAF Toledo Committee on Multicultural Diversity

In July, after reconvening our board, AAF Toledo introduced a new initiative and committee to our organization: "The AAF Toledo Committee on Multicultural Diversity." Being representative of the clients and public we serve is imperative to the success of our industry. The goal is to develop educational opportunities, that allow our members to create inclusive workplace environments for our diverse communities here in Toledo. We want all individuals to feel welcome at AAF, with events and programming that stimulate new and insightful conversations in our respective fields.
We are a new committee, still building our local platform, but would love for you to join us in this effort! Please email Patty if you are interested.

About Cindy:

Cindy Kerr has been the Executive Director of the Downtown Toledo Improvement District since 2014.  With the partnership between the Downtown Toledo Development Corporation and the Improvement District, she's about to take on the role of Vice President of Services.  In this new position, she will have responsibility for Marketing & Events, Clean & Safe Services, Park Smart, and the Toledo Design Center.  She's excited to see Downtown Toledo's future progress.  As she likes to say, "Others work "in" downtown but she works "on" downtown."
Cindy began her career at The Toledo Hospital in finance before moving on to The Medical College of Ohio as Finance Director.  She also worked at the global headquarters for Whirlpool Corporation in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  Her leadership roles included Human Resource, Manufacturing Quality, Product Development Marketing and Innovation.

She has her Bachelors of Business Administration and MBA from the University of Toledo.  She also has an executive degree in Healthcare Administration from the Ohio State University.  Cindy is a passionate supporter and volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, Cherry Street Mission and Read for Literacy.

Students: Looking for your next internship?

Whether it's to earn class credit or gain essential experience, our annual Internship Event brings together students, professionals and prospective employers for a unique networking and educational experience. This presentation is free to college students in Toledo and surrounding areas.

The Internship Event gives you the opportunity to engage with local professionals across the communications, marketing, public relations and media industries. Here, you will learn how to become the ideal internship candidate, helping to pave the way for your future career.  This presentation will include a panel of six well-regarded experts who will share their unique thoughts and perspectives with students. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with professionals both one-on-one and through our Q&A panel session.

Whether you're a first-year student or graduating senior, you've completed two internships or perhaps are looking to start your first; this is the event for you!

We look forward to seeing you on November 4, from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn, Levis Commons. Attendees will enjoy a continental breakfast along with the opportunity to network with recruiters and other professionals.

Dan will talk about his journey through advertising and brand marketing with some of the largest brands in the world including M&M's, Colgate Palmolive, Kahlua, and Bank of America.  Dan continues his journey by sharing how he founded and currently runs one of the Country's largest technology and entrepreneurship centers.

About Dan:

Dan is co-founder of Packard Place, an entrepreneurship center in Charlotte, NC, that was recently ranked as one of the five largest tech and innovation centers in the country. He also co-founded the QueenCity Fintech program, one of the top Fintech Accelerators in the World, and has over 50 alumni companies with over $35M in raised capital.

Dan's first career was in Fortune 500 marketing in senior marketing positions for General Mills, Colgate Palmolive, and M&M/MARS.  In addition, he served as the Brand & Advertising Executive for Bank of America where he oversaw Brand Strategy and Marketing Communications.

His entrepreneurial career began in 2003 as one of the co-founders of the Internet marketing firm, Red Ventures. Additionally, he was co-founder of three different companies on the INC 500 list of fastest-growing private companies in America.
Dan has a finance degree from Michigan State University and a MBA in marketing from the University of Minnesota. He is the father of two sets of twins and is a passionate Spartan. Go Green!

HOT is rolling out this cool new look to coincide with the completion of an 18-month expansion that includes an additional building on their Northwood campus, a new 5-color 40" UV offset press, plus new digital and wide-format presses. Founded in 1976 as a home-based typesetting company - House of Type - is now in its third generation of family management.

How to Submit a Guest Blog Post to AAF Toledo
The ideal length for a post is between 850 and 1,000 words and must not have been previously published.
Come up with a great idea. To be considered, AAFTOL blog topics should be related to advertising, marketing and communications. Write something that you would want to read yourself.
Send a proposal. Send a brief proposal to director@aaftoledo.org. Please do not send the full article. Keep it brief: a tentative headline; two or three sentences explaining what the blog will be about; and one sentence saying why you are qualified to write it. Based on this proposal AAFTOL will let you know within three business days whether to submit the article.
Write with the reader in mind. Writing for the web is different from writing for print. The best way to organize the piece is to start with a brief set-up that hooks the reader. Then organize the rest in segments. Assume the reader is busy and has a short attention span. Short paragraphs and headings within the article make it easier to read.
Include a brief bio at the top. Your name; the name of your company (with a link to your website); and if you've written a book relevant to the article, the title of that book with a link to the Amazon page or to your website if the book is available for sale there. If you tweet, please indicate that, and include a link to your Twitter profile page.
Submit the completed article. Please submit your final version by pasting into the body of an e-mail, or attach it as a Microsoft word document. Your submission will be reviewed by AAFTOL editorial board. If we have any questions, comments or concerns, we will contact you.
What happens next? AAFTOL will acknowledge receipt of the blog within 24 hours, and let you know within a week whether it has been accepted for publication. If it is, AAFTOL reserves the right to edit the article, including changes in the text, subheads and headline, to improve readability and maximize web traffic.
