Dear CDPS members,
As I have met employees across all divisions and geographic areas of our department, I’ve noticed that one particular value stands out as shared by all: a desire and commitment to serve.
It comes as no surprise, then, that CDPS has the honor of being the workplace of hundreds of U.S. military veterans. Based on your responses to a recent internal survey, we have more than 230 veterans whose combined contribution totals more than TWO THOUSAND YEARS of service to our country. We have representatives from every branch of the military; some of you continue to serve in the Reserves or National Guard.
On Nov. 10, we will take a moment to thank our CDPS veterans via various activities planned around the state, and on Nov. 11 we will join fellow Americans in a holiday to thank and honor all veterans. If you served (or continue to serve), know this: Our gratitude for your service and sacrifice is boundless, and we recognize that you deserve our thanks year-round.
I encourage all of you to take a moment to participate in the opportunities that are available in your division or local area to honor and thank our veterans. And if you are a veteran, THANK YOU.
Stan Hilkey, Executive Director

Local CIAC Analyst Briefs Highest Level of Intelligence Community
Last month, an intelligence analyst with the Colorado Information Analysis Center (CIAC) traveled to Virginia to brief senior national intelligence officials on behalf of a national team of public- and private-sector experts.
The work she performed may assist the U.S. in its strategic campaign against the terrorist organization known as ISIL.
The analyst was one of just two state-level analysts in the entire country to participate in the Homeland Security/ODNI Private Sector Analytical Exchange Program during fiscal year 2015-2016.

Fires Keep CDPS Busy in October
Numerous employees representing four out of five CDPS divisions mobilized in response to nearly back-to-back large-scale wildfires in southern Colorado in October.
Fire Prevention and Control provided resources, firefighters and leadership to assist with managing the fire. Homeland Security and Emergency Management activated the state EOC, staffed local operations centers and provided recovery experts to help residents who suffered losses. Troopers assisted with road blocks and traffic control. And CBI investigators helped to determine the cause of the fire.

DCJ Fall Event Fosters Team Spirit
The Division of Criminal Justice gathered all of their team members to eat together, showcase their individual units' characters, and engage in friendly competition during a fall festival on Oct. 13.
Individuals competed for the best dish home-cooked for the potluck. They also showed off their creativity and character in competitions for the best unit-designed centerpiece and best personal hat. The blend of socializing, laughter, recognition and celebration was an excellent way to strengthen bonds among workers who deal with very challenging subjects every day.

State Patrol Honors Breast Cancer Fight
In honor of those who have and are currently battling breast cancer, the State Patrol rolled out five specially-wrapped marked patrol cars throughout the state in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The patrol cars featured a temporary pink wrap as well as a rear deck lid with space for those who wished to honor a family member to grab a sharpie and write messages of encouragement, hope and/or remembrance.
The cars were rolled out in troop areas 1-A, 1-D, 2-C, 4-A, and Public Affairs.
"This is yet another example of how we show the citizens of our great state that we mean it when we say 'Our Family Protecting Yours,'" Chief Hernandez said.

Uniform Crime Reporting Program Director Darla Hackworth (pictured) was presented with a Director’s Citation for her outstanding work in securing the grant.

In our September survey, a number of CDPS members mentioned email overload. One simple way to cut back on unnecessary emails is to use calendar tools to pick dates and times when scheduling with a group of people.
Instead of a round-and-round email discussion about who's available when, try sending a
Doodle calendar survey. Or,
use Google's built in calendar-sharing function. You may have to request access to "see" someone's calendar. Once shared with you, you can click "
Find a Time" when you create a new calendar item to see the windows of time that work for all invitees.
