This special event newsletter will provide you with all the information you need for the CallidusCloud U.S. Open Netball America Championships.  In just 7 days athletes and volunteers from all over the world will start descending upon Atlanta.

Presidents - please inform your members they are able to apply to be a part of the USA All Star Team that's going to perform in the arena stadium on Friday evening November 8th starting at 6pm.  Register here and email back the completed form.

 

Starting at 4.30pm we will have the middle school students from Mabry Middle School compete against our GoGirlGo! Girls.  This will be followed by the USA All Star Team vs Calgary, Alberta All Star Team and then the reigning Netball America Cup winners 'Southeast Strikers' will take on the Caribbean All Star team. 

  
We have an outstanding number of umpires to keep you all in check - 16 in total!!  Don't forget umpires to register for your practical exam. 
  
Anyone wanting to purchase a portable netball post from the U.S. Open can do so for only $100 and you may take it with you (we'll pack it for you ready to transport) or you may pay $30 to have us ship it to you. 
  
Remember that it's not too late to get in some key fitness to make you last through the weekend.  You can visit our strength and conditioning site to give you some tips and Rhea Button one of our U.S. Open Physical Therapists is sharing some nutrition, hydration and fitness tips for you.  Rhea will be joined by Physical Therapist Simon Williams from Miami to take care of all your PT needs at the Open.

3 DAY HIGH LEVEL AGENDA  
 
FRIDAY
All events at McEachern High School.  Shuttles will run from the Hilton Marietta to the school.  Food, including dinner will also be available for purchase at the school.  Shuttles will be running between the hotel and the school commencing at 1pm and will do final runs after the Managers and Umpires meeting finishes.
  
- Netball America Annual General Meeting: 1.30 - 2.30pm (lunch will be provided)
- Team Registration: 3.00pm - 8pm
- Umpiring & Coaching clinics: 2.30pm - 4:00pm
- Kids Netball games:4.30 pm - 6.00pm
- USA Allstars vs Alberta Allstars and Southeast Strikers vs Caribbean Allstars: 6.00pm to 8.00pm
- Managers meeting: 8.00pm - 8.30pm
- Umpires meeting: 8.00pm - 8.30pm
  
SATURDAY
- Shuttle buses departing hotel from 6.45am.  Breakfast available at courts.
- Opening Ceremonies 8am
- First game commences 8.30am
- Last game finishes 5pm
- Celebratory dinner and dance, from 6pm to 11.30pm.  Location: Mansour Center, 995 Roswell Street, NE | Marietta, GA 30060.  Shuttles will run between hotel and center from 5.45pm.  We will also have shuttle available for teams wanting to head home earlier.
  
SUNDAY
- Shuttle buses departing hotel from hotel from 8.30am
- First game commences at 9.30am
- Finals commence from 12.30pm
- Presentations and Closing Ceremonies 2.30pm
- Tournament Finish 3.30pm

Chapa is a member of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Team Captain of the Sri Lanka Air Force Netball team for the years 2010 and 2011. Other caps include Nations Cup in Singapore 2007, Malaysia Friendships games 2010, Netball Europe Open Championship 2010, Asian Beach Netball 2011, 2012, Sri Lanka.  

 

We are delighted that Chapa will add the 2013 US Open Netball Championships to her list.

Food and Transportation
    

We appreciate all the time and expense you are going to in order to participate at the Open and so we have organized some ways to make it easier for you on the wallet while travelling.

 

Food

 

As no outside food is allowed inside the gymnasium, we have some great catering to help you for breakfast and lunches as a really reduced rate.  We will have free water and Gatorade provided for participants at the venue.

 

If you are wanting breakfast delivered to the hotel on Friday morning please download the order form and email to Wendy.  It will be delivered at 8.30am and you will pay cash directly upon receipt.  There will also be breakfast available on Saturday and Sunday at the courts.

 

Dinner on Saturday evening is included for all registered participants.  Additional family and friends may purchase a meal ticket here for $30.  Kids are welcome and those under 16 are $10 and under 5 are free.  We have a DJ to pump out your favorite tunes and you can dress up as much as you want or as casual as you want.

 

You can pre-order a bottle of red/white or champagne here.  So save some $$ and order for your table now and it will be waiting for you when you arrive.

 

 

Transportation

To get from the airport to the Hilton shuttles are available.  You can pre-book it here or organize once you are at the airport.  Cost is around $25 per person.  Taxis are available and depending on traffic, cost could be from $60.

 

Once you arrive at the hotel we have organized free transportation for you to/from the hotel and venue as well as the Saturday evening dinner.  A free hotel shuttle is also available to take you to nearby places.
 

We have organized for a shuttle to take you to the airport on Sunday after the closing ceremonies.  The shuttle will leave around 3.45pm and is $25 per person.  As space is limited you will need to reserve online here.

Registered participants and volunteers are invited to attend our world class coaching and umpiring clinics Friday afternoon at McEachern High School from 2.30 to 4pm. RSVP is essential here
 
Coaching Clinic will focus on attack and defense principals - advanced level.
  
Umpiring Clinic will review the techniques of umpiring as well as cover technical rules and umpire protocols. 
 
Meet your presenters:

 

Ilze is a graduate of Stellenbosch Netball Institute (SNI), South Africa and studied Sport, Marketing Management and Nutrition through SNI and Stellenbosch University. She represented the Senior Provincial team from age 18 until August 2011 and was also Captain of the Provincial team. Her coaching experience includes working with top international players, including Australia's Jill Macintosh. In 2012, Ilze took the first ever team of American Citizens to represent the USA at the World University Championships in South Africa.

 

Tanya has been and player and coach for over 20 years, based in Qld Australia.  In 1998, Tanya attained her Level 1 Coaching qualification and in 2011 she received A Grade Coach certification. This year Tanya's highlights include coaching the Brothers A Grade team to a 3rd consecutive premiership in Rockhamption along with attaining her Development Level  Coaching Certification.

 

Deirdrie Zuk 

Netball Alberta Umpire Director

  

Over the past 18 years, Deirdrie has participated as a Provincial player in the Canadian National Championships in U18, U23 and Open divisions. Deirdrie commenced umpiring under the guidance of a New Zealand International umpire in 2000 and received her Advanced Badge in 2006. Since 2006, Deirdrie has continued to work with International Umpires at National tournaments and worked on developing junior umpires and improving practical testing.   Deirdrie is passionate about the sport of Netball and believes that every game deserves a fair and unbiased Umpire who is committed to providing the highest level of expertise possible.
