Veteran's Day Assembly
All Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts are encouraged to come to school in uniform on Monday, Nov. 14th, as we celebrate Veteran's Day.  A few Scouts will be participating in the assembly; however, we would like all of our Scouts to have the opportunity to show reverence for this occasion.  We will be taking a group picture of all our Stillwater Scouts prior to the assembly.
Library News... Attention 3-5 Grade Families...
This year, our regular "full-day" and "early release" 6 day schedules will be supplemented with an additional "Thursday" schedule.  This means that if your student is in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade and their rotation day for the library falls on a Thursday, they will have an art class instead.  With this improvement, 2nd-5th grade students get eleven supplemental art sessions this school year.
Mrs. Kati Oliver will be teaching these special sessions on Thursday's in Portable B.  We are fortunate to share Mrs. Oliver with Cherry Valley Elementary, where she teaches art on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Hello my name is Kati Oliver and I have lived here in Duvall for the last 10 years. I have three boys (two attending at CVE and one at Tolt). I have a degree in Early Childhood Education from Brigham Young University and have been a classroom teacher in both CA and UT. I enjoy running, Thai food, and vacationing with my family. I am so excited for the opportunity to be teaching art in the Riverview School District and am enjoying my days learning and creating with your students!

Highly Capable Services and Program for the Academically Talented
The Riverview School District will be accepting nominations for assessing students for Highly Capable Services, including the Grade 2-5 Program for the Academically Talented (PAT) for the 2017-2018 school year.  All first grade students will be screened in January to determine their eligibility, so no first-graders or Kindergarteners need to be nominated. Parents can opt out of the Highly Capable screening for their children by completing the opt-out form which will be given to you at conferences or sent home with your 1st grade child. All parents who wish to nominate their 2 nd - 12 th  grade children may pick up a nomination form in the school office starting November 21 st  to be turned in by December 16 th . No late nominations or outside/private testing will be accepted. Those elementary students who meet the criteria on the screener, given during the day at their home s chool, will be invited to take the full Cognitive Abilities Test in February 2017 at Carnation Elementary.
The goal for Highly Capable Services is to support and provide appropriate academic challenges to students with extraordinary ability in English/Language Arts, or Math.
December 16th -  ALL Highly Capable Nomination Forms Due in the  HiCap Office at Carnation elementary.

Round 1 - January CogAT screener given during the school day

Those who meet our criteria will move on to take the full CogAT test

Round 2 - Late February CogAT test (9:00 AM - 12:00 on a Saturday)
*If a child is ill or unable to attend a testing session, a parent must contact the  HiCap Office to schedule a make-up test. No outside tests accepted.

Volunteers NEEDED!
We are still needing volunteers for the Upcoming Book Fair!

Please contact Mrs. Harvold if you are interested.  Thanks so much!

5th Grade Families!
FYI for your calendars...
The 4th & 5th graders have the opportunity to sell Otis Spunkmeyer products starting next week to help offset the cost of Outdoor Camp.   This is a great way to offset the cost for camp which this year is
$195per student.
Below is the timeline and we will do our best to keep you updated as we know more...

Time Changes below!!!

November 4 - The O.S. rep will come in at lunch time to talk about the fundraiser.
November 4 - November 16 - The order forms and all related information will come home with 4th and 5th graders.  And Selling can begin!
The week of 12/12 - Items will be available for pick up at Stillwater.  Because these items are perishable, it is EXTREMELY important that your items are picked up on the day they arrive.
By January 6- The amount due for camp will be added to your 5th graders e-funds account taking into account any earnings from the fundraiser.  The AWESOME news is that you can make payments towards the total over the next 4 months if you choose.    If you have questions about this, please call Karie in the front office at 425-844-4681.
Jan 12 : Baby Pictures Due for Yearbook
May 9-12 : Camp Waskowitz
Growth Mindset & Accepting Challenges! This is the Stillwater Way!

This group of students were asked what a "Growth Mindset" means to them and here were some of their answers:
  • "This is going to take some time and effort and to not give up"
  • "My brain is growing smarter"
  • "Doing something you don't want to do"
  • "To not make guesses."
  • Never give up and to do your best"
