APICS Dictionary Word of the Week

kanban:

A method of just-in-time production that uses standard containers or lot sizes with a single card attached to each. It is a pull system in which work centers signal with a card that they wish to withdraw parts from feeding operations or suppliers. The Japanese word kanban, loosely translated, means card, billboard, or sign but other signaling devices such as colored golf balls have also been used. The term is often used synonymously for the specific scheduling system developed and used by the Toyota Corporation in Japan.

October 2017

President's Message:

Thank you for taking the time to read this month's newsletter. As a chapter, we have had a few exciting events over the past several weeks geared towards students and young professionals. First, we held a small event on Temple's campus to focus on interview and resume tips for their supply chain students. On October 4th, was the "Mini-Mega" event with the neighboring supply chain organizations that also went very well at the Manayunk Brewery.

On November 8th, join us at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fort Washington for our PDM - "Getting to Yes!" with Rick Cathers, CPIM to help you navigate your organization to get buy in on projects you are working on. Sign up here!

We have also opened up registration for our Spring certification review courses. For those of you looking to complete your CPIM, we will be offering the new CPIM Module 2 course, which would be great for those of you who have already passed the Basics of Supply Chain Management Exam. We also are offering ECO and SMR sequentially to cater to those who have taken three of the CPIM courses and need to finish the certification. The last day to take those exams is Dec 31, 2018.

In addition, we are offering two CSCP courses, one on the weekend and one during the week, and a weekend CLTD course. Sign up at http://pan-apics.org/Educational_Programs.

We hope to see you soon at one of our upcoming events!
