WHS activities and events this month and coming up!

We were thrilled to take part in the United for Abortion Coverage Week of Action, sponsored by All*Above All. During this week, we did a banner drop in front of the state Capitol building and canvassed at 6 Northern California schools, collecting several hundred signatures for the Each Woman Act! This was a week of action as well as awareness-raising of the harmful Hyde Amendment, an appropriations rider voted in every year that prevents federal funding of abortion care.

All Are Welcome. No Referral Needed.

As the kinks of the Affordable Care Act are worked out, many newly insured or uninsured folks are finding themselves slipping through the cracks when it comes to receiving quality healthcare services. At Women's Health Specialists we take all insurance plans, including MediCal, or use a sliding scale. You do not need a referral or authorization from your primary care provider to come to us!
"What Does It Look Like When a State Bucks the Hyde Amendment?" a Rewire piece by Nicole Knight detailing California's rejection of the Hyde Amendment abortion ban.

September's 40th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment sparked interest in how harmful this federal ban on abortion coverage has been.
Women's Health Specialists was featured in a piece by Rewire showing the benefits for women when abortion care is covered by Medi-Cal.

Join us in battling anti-abortion cyber bullies by empowering victims under attack. Over the past couple years online attacks of abortion providers and those supporting them have increased exponentially. The anti-abortion picket lines have moved online - we must take a stand.
Join us in launching this campaign during the month of October for National Bullying Prevention Month.
This campaign is a vision that came out of our Abortion Access Hackathon. The #SeeItShareit #ShutItDown campaign encourages multiple users to report cyber bullying, therefore giving social media platforms additional information and context to better assess cyber bullying / online harassment issues.
If you see an anti-abortion post on social media that target clinics or individuals, snap a screenshot and share it with the hashtags to alert others of this growing problem, then report it through social media channels!

We have been at the MexicanConsulate and the Celebrando Nuestra Salud health fair, for the annual BiNational Health Week focused on Latinx health.

Latinx may be a new word for folks. It covers the spectrum of every gender identity when referring to people of Latin American descent.

Women's Health Specialists was a co-sponsor of the 37th Annual Sacramento Take Back the Night, an evening of remembrance, celebration, and action against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence.

Sacramento and Redding are once again being targeted for the anti-abortion "40 Days for Life" campaign, but we are lucky to have more volunteer clinic escorts than ever to help shield clients and staff from harassment and offer a welcoming presence when they come to the clinic!
