Greetings!

Along with the usual Fall things (pumpkins and turkeys), at OCLM we'll enjoy a Fun Fair and Fall Festival. This month we are in planning mode for these exciting events in November.

A first for Conejo, the upcoming Fun Fair means more fundraising with built-in fun (think Rio and those rubber ducks!). We're only six weeks into the year, and we've raised over $10,000 so far for our school. Beyond the food and fun, the best part is the "doing" that we share (to make it all happen) and the results that we see.

Fall Festival, a treasured tradition at OCLM, gives our teachers a chance to connect with students in a unique way each Friday. It's also a great way for parents to get involved as partners in one of the most enjoyable aspects of whole-child teaching.

Let's all find our way into what's happening this Fall at OCLM!

Movie Night Makes Memories & Money for Conejo

Conejo has officially been Rio'd!

movie night- Ben with birdMany of the more than 300 kids and parents who attended movie night might say that our school spirit and sense of community stole the show. Or, was it the colorful flock of birds on display? And then there was the movie itself, which had students and parents laughing, cheering and dancing--drop it, drop it, drop it low! The night had it all, and we achieved the ever-popular goal of having a lot of fun while raising lots of money for our school.

movie night - bird show, popcornAfter costs, we raised a
total of $1,000 (75% for PFA and 25% for SCOPE) through sales of food and baked goods donated by our families, popcorn and glow sticks. The bonus was a community-building, memory-making event for Conejo! Thanks to everyone who attended, and especially those who donated items and helped plan and put on the festivities!

This Wednesday: 7 Habits Overview for Parents

Reinforce what your kids are learning about Leader in Me!

leader in meOur kids are focusing on Habit #5, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, this week as our teachers cover one habit per week in the classroom. Starting in November, students will study the habits 1-7 in depth, one per month.

To keep our parents up to speed, Dr. Sellers will present a series of parent trainings on the habits throughout the school year. The first is an overview of the 7 Habits of Leader in Me on Wednesday, October 12 at 8:30am and 6:30pm. Refreshments will be served.

Those who have attended these trainings before know that there are great insights and practical tools to be found in the 7 Habits. We hope to see you there!

You can also visit www.theleaderinme.org anytime for information on the 7 Habits and resources for sharing them with your family.

Fall Festival: Meeting & First Fun Friday This Week

The fun begins this week and we need you and your ideas!

Fall Festival Personal Leadership CenterThere are lots of opportunities for creativity around this year's Fall Festival theme: Music!

Fall Festival is an OCLM tradition for all grades--a full day event of hands-on experiences focused on a specific theme, set in an outdoor venue. Leading up to the event, students learn about one aspect of the theme each week on Fun Fridays as they rotate to different OCLM teachers.

Parents and teachers plan Fall Festival and Fun Fridays together, so everyone's helping hands are what make this day a special learning experience for our children. Ms. Shoshana and OCLM parent, Liz Beaven, are heading up the planning. Join them this Wednesday, October 12 at 11:30am in the PRC, Room 26 (one hour prior to 12:30 minimum day pick up) for the first planning meeting.

This year's Fall Festival is set for Friday, November 18.  Mark your calendars for this fun and educational day! And, look for more information coming soon on how you can volunteer to help out this year.
