St. Paul's Church

"[Jesus] came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near." (Ephesians 2:17)

Dear St. Paul's,

I continue to marvel at the opportunities that the Lord provides to our congregation to bring the message of peace to precious souls both near and far away.

A few weeks ago, I received a call from Fr. Tony Holder from Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church inviting someone from our congregation to join them on a trip to Jamaica to deliver Christmas gifts to orphans on that Island nation.  He said that all of the expenses for this individual's trip would be paid for by Holy Sacrament, as an expression of gratitude for our partnership with them in the Belize Mission. Of course I was overwhelmed with joy by the offer, and I quickly asked Bob Webster if he would serve as our representative.  And now Bob is thrilled to be going!  Very soon, we will be collecting school supplies that Bob will deliver in December.

And on Sunday November 8th I will be leaving on a two-week mission to Asia.  I will be a part of a team which includes Bishop Ron and his wife Susie Kuykendall, Alvis Duncan, and Father Don Walker, each of whom has visited St. Paul's at one point or another.  We are most grateful for your prayers while we are serving the Lord overseas.

And some might wonder what exactly is the value of investing time and resources on reaching those far away when the needs of St. Paul's and others near us are so great.  In answering that, I would first point to the many examples from Scripture in which God calls His people to preach the Good News "to all nations."  Our God has a missionary heart, and He has given us His heart for the whole world.  Our first priority is to hear Lord's call, and to respond in obedience no matter the cost.  But from the inception of St. Paul's, I had a strong sense that the Lord would bless us as a church as we stepped out in faith and sent people to the ends of the earth to share the love of Jesus.  And the Lord has done just that.

I know that both Bob and I will come back from our trips more passionate than ever to bring Christ to the world, and I have no doubt that passion will continue to spread throughout St. Paul's, and to our neighbors in Vero Beach.

Thank you again for your partnership in Gospel!

Gratefully in Christ,

Pr. Jon

Note:  Pastor Jon's Wednesday evening Bible study will end this week and resume in January.

St. Paul's Vero Beach and St. Andrews Gainesville are planning a ten-day pilgrimage to the Holy Land tentatively scheduled for October of 2016.  The trip will be led by Bishop Ron Kuykendall, Pr. SKIMMERS
The Skimmers are enjoying their study of Revelation.  We have read the first five chapters and it has provoked some great discussion, questions and some very interesting responses:

  • "the time is near" (Revelation 1:3) - that means Jesus could be here in the next 2 minutes or 2,000 years from now!
  • It sounds like Jesus is going to be the boss of everything when He comes back.
  • Jesus sees everything we do?  Kind of like Santa.
  • What is wrong with being "Lukewarm?"
  • A lamb with seven horns & seven eyes; how creepy!

Some of the things we have learned are:
  • We may not know what the future holds but we know God is in charge
  • Jesus is not going to be the meek and mild teacher we saw last time but a glorified king
  • God expects complete commitment from his followers
  • The importance of worship - not just one hour a week

With the approach of the holidays we will be taking a break from Revelation for the next couple months.  We will be busy with a variety of service projects; starting with packing bags for the Military Moms and packing the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child.

FLAMEVINE LANE PROPERTY
Please continue to pray for all aspects of the planning: engineers, architects, and city planning.  Please pray also for the funding of the renovations that we would be wise stewards of the resources the Lord has given us.

~ SUNDAY SCHOOL ~

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."    Galatians 5:22-23

Our "Fruit of the Spirit" tree is filling up.  We have learned
that  living a "fruitful life" is hard work.
  • Love is not just a feeling but an action! God wants us to do loving things for others, even those we may not like.
  • Joy comes from having Jesus in your life and knowing you will be with Him forever in heaven!
  • Peace means being calm and relaxed even when everything around you is crazy! (trusting God).
  • Patience is forgiving others even when they bug us, sin against us or make us wait!
  • Kindness is not just being polite but being compassionate even to those who are unkind to us.
During the month of November we will explore the last 4 fruits; goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  I don't think things are going to get any easier.

Many see Thanksgiving as the most important family holiday of the year.  With this in mind, we don't want anyone to be alone on Thanksgiving.  We hope to have a place for everyone to share a Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings.  Our plan is to have someone host, cook a turkey, and have guests bring a traditional side dish to share.  If you would like to celebrate the holiday with other
St. Paul's folks, please let us know.
