It's October and we are focusing on two health issues that are near and dear to our hearts -- ADHD and Breast Cancer Awareness.  

Both health concerns respond well to a whole body approach for healing which includes alternative therapies, a healthy diet, supplements, essential oils, exercise and emotional support

Neurofeedback training can play a pivotal role in healing for those struggling with attention disorders and for women recovering from breast cancer, helping to improve focus and attention, diminish "brain fog" and relieve nerve pain associated with chemotherapy.  Finding healthy outlets for managing stress naturally is also important and meditation can be a good option.  Check out my new

ADHD & Insomnia: 
Training the Brain to Improve Focus, Attention & Sleep




Many children, as well as adults, who are diagnosed with ADHD also suffer from insomnia. Practicing good sleep hygiene is, of course, a step in the right direction toward achieving restorative sleep. 

Eliminating electronics at bedtime, as well as sugary foods and energy drinks, winding down with a good book, meditating and listening to soft music can be helpful. However, many times sleep disturbances in people with ADHD are actually caused by dysregulated brain-wave patterns. Studies show that 85% of children with ADHD have an excess of slow theta brain-waves.  Stimulant medications that are often prescribed to wake up these "sleepy" brain-wave patterns, may help increase temporary alertness, they also can create serious sleep disturbances as well as other unwanted side effects.

Rated an  Evidence-Based, Level 1 Best Support Intervention  by the American Academy of Pediatrics, n eurofeedback brain-wave training addresses the brain-wave dysregulation that underlies ADHD and sleep issues, training the brain to produce normal patterns that enable it to work efficiently and effectively.  In contrast to medication which wears off and can trigger irritability and aggressiveness, known as the "rebound effect," neurofeedback provides a long-lasting, for some even permanent resolution of attention problems and sleep issues. Making Good ADHD Diet Choices

Diet is an important component of a healthy lifestyle, especially for those managing ADHD. Children and adults with ADHD tend to thrive on a diet high in protein and healthy carbohydrates. This is especially important as a morning meal. Eggs, steel cut oats, protein shakes (with no added sugar), lean chicken or turkey are great choices to jumpstart the day. For healthy carbohydrates, choose peas, quinoa, or gluten-free toast with a nut butter. Most berries are extremely rich in antioxidants and high in fiber which can also help alleviate some of the symptoms of ADHD. Opt for organic blueberries, raspberries and cherries. 

Swap Out the Bad for the Good

Eliminating all processed sugars and dyes is essential with ADHD. Try replacing white sugar with coconut sugar (although it is still sugar, coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index) or organic maple syrup (2 tbsp can typically replace the sugars in most recipes). When baking, use a whole wheat brown flour, almond flour, coconut flour or a  gluten-free flour instead of white flour. 

Keeping the immune system functioning properly is essential as well. A probiotic with one billion strains is recommended for daily immune support.

Diabetes Management -- There's An App For That 

86 million Americans are teetering on the edge of Type II diabetes. 

While good nutrition and lifestyle changes can help ward off diabetes, maintaining a proper diet is a challenge for most.  Having a readily accessible coach on hand is key to achieving good weight and blood sugar levels.  

Now there's an app for that. Prenatal Care...Naturally

An easier labor, healthier mother and healthier baby begins with proper alignment during pregnancy.   

Many expectant women seek chiropractic care to relieve the aches and pains of a misaligned spine or joints caused by a protruding abdomen and increased back curve.  However p renatal chiropractic goes beyond pain relief;  in fact, it can facilitate the baby's growth and development, and ultimately delivery, by establishing pelvic balance, which can reduce the need for interventions such as cesarean section.  In our practice, we have much success with helping breech babies turn vertex with gentle chiropractic adjustments.
