Dear Friends of A Novel Experience,

October ushers in one of our favorite seasons where ghosts and goblins come visiting for our annual Trick or Treat  'Round the Square. We must say that these small denizens of the fantastic have the best manners of any visitors we have ever hosted at the store--we look forward to their intense deliberation over candy bars and their heartfelt "thank you's" once selected. For the grown-ups, we offer two book signing  events that channel the spirit of the season. Professional psychic and medium Boo Newell will present a program and sign her new book "Between  the Realms: What Ghosts Teach Us About Life and Death". Author and Poet Harold A. Lawrence will read from his newest work, "Night Flyers and Other Stories" and will be on hand to meet readers and sign his book. Stop by for a delightful evening of spirits, tricks and treats. See below for dates and times.

We have held over Memphis photographer Ryan Steed's photo exhibition for the month of October because we love it. He calls the show "Went Out for Cigarettes" which perfectly introduces the viewer to his thoughtful survey of the places and sights that can be glimpsed on southern roadways. We guarantee you will won't leave the store without a grin--and, a second thought.  His show was a hit during last month's SlowExposures and we are pleased to offer a wonderful selection of framed work and prints for your enjoyment--at very accessible prices to start your collection.

Beginning this month we are starting a new book order policy --when you order a new book from us we will discount it 20% from the list price. Your order will be available for pick-up from the store within a week or, we can have it sent to you direct from our distributor's warehouse for a modest shipping and handling fee (although, we'd rather see you and talk books!). And, when you purchase $100 worth of new titles from us we give you an immediate $10 coupon. If you haven't already started your "new book" card, come in soon and begin! It's our way of saying "thanks" to you for supporting our indie bookstore and contributing to the life of our community.

Thanks to everyone who has sent a shot of their accumulated to-be-read stack! We're continuing to gather entries to our contest called "Show Us Your Book Pile". (All enthusiastic readers know what we mean...) Take a photo and send it to us...we'll award a special prize to the winner!  See you in October!
