From Linda Perkins, Claremont Graduate University
| Zoe Nicholson has had a profound impact on my students. Each year, she provides real life testimony to the readings and feminist theories that my students study. Zoe has an incredibly rich activist history. She is a champion of the Equal Rights Amendment, GLBTQ rights and human rights in general. Zoe is a humanist who cares about injustices to all persons. She isn't just a one issue activist.

One Student Said

Zoe Nicholson is an activist, writer, and all around awesome human being who spoke to us about activism and how all of us have the power to create change and be an activist. Zoe infused in us the idea of talking about the issues and problems that are in front of us. She said that just by speaking up or one's own actions we are an integral part of the movement and are activists.Student, Santa Monica College 2012

Greetings!
Happy Summer and welcome to my dream come true, my wildest idea, my future, the composite of my past, the insistence of some friends, my heart that beats for change.
Today is the official lighting of Lantern Mentoring; offering consulting, speaking and mentorships focusing on Equality, Intersectionality, LGBT, Activism, Feminism & Organic Leadership.
For years I have been searching for a way to give away all that I know. How can I practice listening, offer my gifts, shine a light on the dark, reach out to a seeking heart. Not a teacher, a guru, a therapist, just a call you can count on with someone who sees down the road and holds the lantern high, so we both can see. Lantern Mentoring is all about the deep art of experiments, testing to find a moral compass, clearing one's vision and tapping unlimited passion. "Hold the lantern high, so we both can see"

Many times I have been asked if I would consider accepting students or apprentices. I have searched for a paradigm that suits me and demonstrates my etiquette. Coach seemed sporty, apprentice felt academic, the eastern tradition of student is not right either. I prefer the First Nation's example of Elder. My favorite is Leo from Journey To the East, who was a Sherpa, wise resource and a beacon on an unfamiliar road. Finally. the one that feels right to me is mentor & protege with the explicit goal of the protege surpassing the mentor in true da Vinci thinking. Through Lantern Mentoring I am opening the door for protege / mentor relationships: hourly, via phone, practicing positive inquiry and mutual understanding. A private safe hour to confer, encourage, inform, listen and celebrate. I know there are people, living in different cities, who might be interested in developing on-going discussions with the mission of examined change and challenge. I am hoping we find one another. You can read more about it on the Mentoring page on the Lantern Mentoring website.

Hard to believe I have been speaking on Equality for forty years. My speaking is unusual, effective, insightful and valuable. The way I know is the fallout long after I have left. The emails, tweets, blogs, facebook comments and resulting innovations don't just happen for a week, they never stop. I am still in touch with people I met in 1972 and a recent tweet, "after hearing you speak, I found the courage to leave the family dinner table when my dad used the word, fag." Activism ~ A Passionate Life Yes, I talk about the past, I am conversant about the present but, mostly, I want to talk about the future - what moves people, intersectionality and ethics. PowerPoint, videos, interactive spoken word; ERA, LGBT, Activist Ethics & Leadership ~ it's all there. Most likely there are pictures of something that happened last week but knowing and showing its lineage is the real treasure. Click here for the 2012 Flyer Women ~ Not Angels
Women ~ Not Angels is a full multimedia presentation on the history and current politics around the Equal Rights Amendment. I present pictures, readings and commentary on The Hungry Heart, my 1982 diary which I wrote while fasting for the ERA. Every women's studies & women's history class should be including historical and current information on the ERA. Today there is a great new burst of energy about the ERA. There are 4 bills in Congress right now. Success lies in getting out the news. Every Women's Studies & Women's History class, every diversity center should be teaching about the ERA. At the very least they should be celebrating Alice Paul, Women's Equality Day, International Women's Day and Women's History Month. I want to speak to them all and set their hearts on fire for Equality and the ERA. Q&A often leads to someone asking about burnout, the long haul, what still moves me and my answer is always the same, "You do, of course."

How fantastic that we can actually foresee the repeal of DOMA and Marriage Equality to be USA law.
I am able to legally marry couples in all 50 states. I plan with couples on their ceremony, their vows and vision for a great holiday.
I have also offered eulogies and officiated funeral services.

My experience with phone partnerships is dynamic and profound; not having to commute, sitting in your own private, safe environment. It has its own magic.
My presentation, Activism ~ A Passionate Life, changes everyone in the room, especially me. Women ~ Not Angels reignites hearts and minds on the Equality & the ERA. Colleges, Universities, campus centers and your group will have some fresh ideas and will be ready for action. Lets plan a booking.
Thank you for reading through this announcement. It does feel a bit like stepping off a cliff. Turning 64 gives me a lot to share and some urgency. Looking forward to tomorrow, though today is really extraordinary.
My most thoughtful gratitude,
