- Whitefish Bay Library - Strategies for Social Security, 6-8 pm Strategies for Social Security and Retirement Income is a class designed to help accomplish the most prevalent goal among retirees - to not run out of money. This class will provide education on the varying methods of filing for Social Security and inform of strategies that can be used to optimize it. The class will also provide a process one might use to calculate what their retirement income need is and introduce a few options on structuring income in retirement. Strategies for Social Security and Retirement Income will help answer questions such as: How are my Social Security benefits calculated and taxed? How can I maximize my Social Security Income? How do I calculate how much I need to retire? How can I ensure myself not to run out of money?

Village Hall and Police Department operations will be shared with DPW at their location at 155 W Fairmount Ave at Lydell until Fall 2018. Free parking, wheelchair accessible.
Holiday Garbage and Recycling Pickup Day Changes:
Thurs., Nov. 23 garbage and recycling collections will occur on Tues., Nov. 21
Fri., Nov. 24 garbage and recycling collections will occur on Wed., Nov. 22
Mon., Dec. 25 garbage and recycling collections will occur on Wed., Dec. 27
Tues., Dec. 26 garbage and recycling collections will occur on Thurs., Dec. 28
Mon., Jan. 1 garbage and recycling collections will occur on Tues., Jan. 2
Leaf Pickup Information:
- Crews will be collecting leaves curbside the week of November 13-17. To ensure your leaves and yard waste are collected please place materials on the pavement in the curb in gutter by Monday morning, Nov. 13, at 7am.
- There will be no leaf collection the week of November 20 due to Thanksgiving. However, weather permitting, curbside leaf collection will be extended and will resume the week of November 27. Snow/freezing conditions will result in discontinuation of this collection; therefore, we strongly encourage residents to place their leaves for collection as soon as possible.
- In addition, weather permitting, leaves and yard waste that is bagged or containerized will be collected the week of December 4. Snow/freezing conditions will result in the discontinuation of this collection.
Chipping of Woody Material: Acceptable woody chipping materials are tree branches and large woody shrubs that are to be placed on the parkway. Materials will not be collected the week of November 20. The chipper will resume collection the week of November 27.
Cramer Street Storm Sewer Improvement Project
(Glendale Avenue to Wilshire Road)
To address surface flooding due to heavy rain events, the Village is proceeding on this project to add additional storm sewer system capacity. Some needed sanitary and water utility work is taking place as well, along with the replacement of lead water services. This project is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Changes to Property Tax Billing and Utility Billing
Important 2017 Property Tax Payment Information:
Due to limited parking and space at temporary location, we are asking residents to pay their tax bill one of the following ways this year:
1) Via US Mail (envelope provided with your tax bill)
2) In person at Associated Bank 430 E Silver Spring Dr
Property Tax bills are sent to residents by December 15, 2017. The first
installment or payment in full is due January 31, 2018.
Tax payments are processed on a daily basis. Receipts and payment information can be found via the Village website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Change to Quarterly from Tri-Annual Billing
As you may have noticed for the last few months on your water utility statement, the Whitefish Bay Water Utility will be switching from a rolling tri-annual billing schedule to a quarterly billing schedule beginning in 2018.
All water utility customers will be on the sam
e quarterly billing cycle and will have the same bill date and due date.

Trash and Recycling Program Changes
You are invited to attend the upcoming Public Works Committee Meetings which will address changes to the Trash and Recycling Programs.
Meeting #1: Topic: Cart Size and Regulations
Public Meeting at 6:00pm on Mon., Nov. 13, in the Program Room at the Whitefish Bay Public Library. Recommendations will be made to the Village Board and are an agenda item on the Mon., Nov. 20 VB 7pm meeting agenda.
There is website information here which will be updated following each decision about the program.
Status Update as of September 12, 2017: The Village Board voted to authorize the implementation of a Village provided cart program to be placed near the curb or alley edge by the resident utilizing the automated collection process effective May 7, 2018 and directed village staff to develop an implementation plan that includes an exception process and to set the implementation date for the recycling program changes as of May 7, 2018.

Now that the weather has turned cold, many people like to let their vehicle warm up before driving. Thieves know this and take it as an opportunity to steal vehicles. Please do not leave your vehicle running with the keys in them.

Whitefish Bay Elementary School Incoming K4-Age Classroom Visits
As you plan for next fall, all Whitefish Bay resident children who will be four years old on or before September 1, 2018 and their parents/guardians, are invited to see Jr. Kindergarten in action at
Cumberland and Richards Schools.
Please join us at this special classroom visit/storytime event at your neighborhood school.

- Incoming Jr. Kindergartners and their parents/guardians will have a 15-minute visit to a Jr. Kindergarten classroom, and will also attend a 15-minute storytime in the library with our Library Media Specialists, Ms. Roberts and Ms. Mallmann.
- Principals, Dr. Alix Kasmarick at Richards School and Ms. Jayne Heffron at Cumberland School, will greet you and following your visit will make a short presentation and answer questions about our program.
In order to plan for these events, we need you to make a reservation. Please call our school offices at Richards School (414) 963-3951 or Cumberland School at (414) 963-3943 to reserve a spot for you and your child. Childcare will be available at both schools for younger siblings during your visit because it is important that we not disrupt the activities of our current junior kindergarten students. Please indicate your need for childcare when you call.

The American Cancer Society has set aside the third Thursday of November for the Great American Smokeout event. This event encourages smokers to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance to stop smoking that day. By quitting, even for 1 day, smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life and reducing their cancer risk. Take the first step this week.
Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers, and is the leading cause of cancer death among men and women. You can lower your risk of lung cancer by quitting smoking, getting your home tested for radon, avoiding exposure to cancer causing chemicals, and eating a healthy diet with a lot of fruits and vegetables. Some common symptoms of lung cancer include:
- A cough that does not go away/coughing up blood
- Chest pain/shortness of breath
- Weight loss
- Infections (bronchitis, pneumonia) that keep coming back
The best way to reduce your risk of lung cancer is to quit smoking. About 36.5 million Americans still smoke cigarettes, and tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the United States. Quitting smoking has immediate and long-term benefits at any age.

The WFBWC raffle was a success. Thanks to all who participated.
The winning tickets were drawn on November 8, 2017. And the winners were:
- Grand prize winner of $1,000.00 was the husband of a new member of the WFBWC.
- Almost all of the other winners were Whitefish Bay residents. One winner was actually an active WFBWC member.
The raffle monies realized will be used for the various functions the WFBWC does through out the year. Such as Hallowscream for the children, hand sewed teddy bears for police/fire personnel to give to frightened children, and knit hats for deployed soldiers and hats for babies through a women's care center.
Monthly Schedule:
- Stitching: 9am-12noon 2nd and 4th Mondays - creating teddy bears for people in need.
- Knitting: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 10am to 12noon at the Woman's Club. Knitting hats for the deployed soldiers.
- Bridge: 1pm Bridge Club 2nd and 4th Thursdays
