Book lovers and bargain hunters, mark your calendars now. The Spring Book Sale sponsored by Friends of the Whitefish Bay Library will be held the first weekend in May in the library's basement. Friends members get a preview of the sale on Friday from 5-7pm. Not a Friend? You can sign up at the sale.

This year there is a very great selection of vinyl albums, cookbooks and foreign language books, in addition to the regular collection of novels and nonfiction for adults. We've also got a lot of children's books and books for young adults.

Proceeds from the book sales go to supplement the wide range of activities at the Library. In the past, proceeds from the Book Sale have funded such projects as reading programs, computer equipment purchases, speakers, furniture and much more.
Donations are also accepted for the Library Book Sale. All books; CDs, DVDs and other media; artwork; puzzles and other slightly-used games can be dropped off throughout the year at the Library. Receipts for tax purposes can be provided. Keep your Whitefish Bay Public Library in mind when you tackle your spring cleaning.
Also Friends are looking for volunteers to help out with the book sale. Please contact volunteer coordinator Jim Gay at jasrgay@hotmail.com

Hampton Avenue Oak Leaf Trail Crossing:
Construction crews, funded by Milwaukee County Parks, will be installing a center island for the Oak Leaf Trail crossing on Hampton Road to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. Work is expected to begin within the next few weeks.

Hydrant Flushing
The
annual fire hydrant flushing project has begun. The first area is from Silver Spring up to the north village limits. Flushing in this area will begin in the northwestern part of the village and progress in a southeastern direction. The second area that will be flushed is from Silver Spring south to Hampton Ave. and from Lydell Ave. heading east up to Santa Monica. Similar to the previous area, flushing will progress from the northwest to the southeast. Completion of our annual fire hydrant flushing should be completed sometime in July.
Portable signs will be posted in the general area where flushing is occurring. Residents may notice cloudy water at times and may experience low water pressure. If cloudy water occurs, please let water run until the water clears. This is only a temporary condition if it occurs.

Yard Waste Pickup
The Village has begun to collect yard waste on a weekly basis. This will continue through fall leaf pick up. Crews begin on Monday mornings on the north side of the Village and work south. Yard waste collections, depending on the volume, typically take 2-3 days.

Village crews will also be collecting materials for chipping biweekly. The chipper will be out the week of May 1, and continue biweekly.

Spring Trash Pickup Notice:
In observance of Memorial Day, garbage pickup normally scheduled for Monday, May 29th, will be picked up on Tuesday, May 30th.
Please note; there is no recycling pickup this week as it is the 5th week of the month.

Tree Program
As part of our Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Management Plan, Voss's Tree Service will continue with the removal of approximately 150 village owned ash street trees through the end of June.  Residents adjacent to the trees that are being removed, have been given notices (refer to attached).  They estimate completion of the removals to take approximately 3 weeks.  After the removals are completed, Flagstone Landscape will begin replacing those trees that were removed.  The tree planting will be completed by the end June.
