Financial Literacy Training
Ohio Jump$tart is hosting a FULLY SPONSORED teacher training conference for educators who teach dedicated stand-alone courses in Financial Literacy (Personal Finance). The conference will be held August 3-5, 2016 in Northern Columbus. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, breakfast, lunch, snacks, lodging (if required) and conference materials are FREE for attendees.
The coursework was developed by Jump$tart National and focuses on delivering personal finance content. It closely aligns with recently adopted ODE Academic Content Standards for Financial Literacy. Training will be delivered by leading financial literacy experts. College credit and/or CEUs options are available.
A $100 registration fee is required with applications, and is fully refunded upon completion of the conference. Space is limited and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Participants are required to complete pre-work and a post-conference correlation research study managed by the University of Cincinnati ECER. Attendees will also receive a $150-$200 prepaid card after meeting the research requirements. http://ohiojstta2016.weebly.com/ or further details and application information.
Discover Parenting deadline extended
Thank you to those of you who have already sent photos for our 2016 display. It has come to our attention that a teacher sent entries via email, and those entries were returned. Because of this issue we are concerned that others may have sent entries that were returned to them. Therefore, we are extending the deadline to Friday, April 15, 2016. (Tax Day - ugh!) If you did not receive confirmation from me of receipt of your entry, I need to hear from you ASAP. For those of you that thought you might be too late, here's a second chance. All contact information is at the end of this email.

Entries should be emailed to [email protected] AND [email protected] or "snail mailed" to:

USEP-OHIO, Inc.
7514 Slate Ridge Blvd.
Reynoldsburg, OH 43068

Entries should include:
  • Teacher registration, if not already sent in
  • Photo (JPG files should have enough resolution to be enlarged into an 8"x10" print. An actual print should be large enough so that it can also be enlarged to an 8"x10" print.)
  • Student photo entry form
I've attached the appropriate form for this year. Teacher registration and student entry forms can also be faxed to 614-868-9755.

Good luck to everyone. Look for the 2016 Discover Parenting entries on our website sometime next month.

The State Leadership Conference Guide provides advisers with all the information needed for that SLC and Career Development Events. Advisers are highly recommended to print off and review all information. Essential information will only be posted in the document.
List of food options at SLC and prices
Vendors will have food available for purchase on Thursday and Friday in the Bricker Building and Celeste Center. Here's the Vendors Menu.
Advisers needed as Judges
Please submit your name and any other names of Evaluators by April 12, 2016 using the State Competition Evaluator Portal. All Evaluators will be contacted by the state staff no later than April 15, 2016.
The Board of Directors adopted a Career Development Events Handbook in February. The Handbook contains a section regarding Teacher Expectations.

Teacher Expectations:
  • Will judge/lead/assistant lead
  • Provide volunteers to be judges based on registration requirements
  • No one with participants in a specific category/event may judge that category/event
  • Cannot be in any designated judging areas with your students
  • Exercise professional decorum
In order to provide students with the best presentation experience at State Leadership Conference, we are asking all teachers who have students competing to volunteer themselves to judge an event. This is a great opportunity for you to become familiar with an event that you may use as a performance measure with your new courses. Culinary, Lodging and Early Childhood Education teachers may judge Ohio only events or any of the Foundational, Leadership or Career Preparation events that move onto National competition. Ohio FCCLA needs 3 judges at each station on Thursday for the events held at the The Ohio Expo. Teachers with Culinary and Lodging students competing on Wednesday should volunteer to judge an event that day.

Advisers are the subject matter experts and can help our business partners and associates to score rubrics appropriately. If you have any questions, feel free to reach our state staff.

Your involvement as a judge of a Career Development Event empowers the students to become champions.
Meals of Hope
The SEC has created a video to show chapters how to register as a fundraiser.  Meals of Hope how to video!
Watch the Meals of Hope video!

Meals of Hope has given hundreds of volunteer-minded individuals a way to make a positive impact by bringing Food Packing Events to their local churches, schools, associations and other clubs and service organizations. They are tackling a serious problem while having some serious fun. This year Ohio FCCLA will be holding a Meals of Hope meal-packing event for the second year. The meals will be donated to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Chapter Challenge
The State Executive Council has set a goal to pack 70,000 meals in celebration of our 70th Anniversary.
The SEC Challenges each chapter to create a team using the Meals of Hope website and collect donations to help reach our goal of 70,000 meals.

How it works:
  1. Log on to the FCCLA Meals of Hope website
  2. Click Register a Fundraiser
  3. Start a Team-Create a team name using your chapter name
  4. Set a goal
  5. Get teammates
  6. GO! Share the link on social media, hold a fundraising activity or challenge your friends and family to give to help so Ohio FCCLA reaches our goal providing 70,000 meals to families in Ohio.
Meal Packing
Members of the chapters who create a team and raise funds will have the opportunity to pack meals during session 1 from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. All other conference attendees can help from 10:00 A.M. to 10:50 A.M. During meal packing, members will be working in teams to package and process mac and cheese. The members will be measuring noodles and inserting cheese packages into individual packages and then will be packaging them in preparation for the delivery to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Recognition
All chapters and members who raise money for Meals of Hope will receive recognition at Thursday's opening session. The chapter who raises the most money will receive special recognition.
SEC Pie in the Face Challenge
