2. Congressional Redistricting Reform Campaign Update
On Wednesday, the Columbus Dispatch reported that state legislative leaders are ready for a "serious discussion."  Of course, voters have been waiting a long time while lawmakers talk. And talk.

Redistricting reform has been on the legislative agenda for more than 10 years.  Redistricting reform resolutions passed out of the Ohio Senate in 2009 and the Ohio House in 2010 and both chambers came together to put state legislative redistricting reform on the ballot in 2014.  The Legislative Branch and Executive Branch Committee of the Constitutional Modernization Commission have been exploring redistricting reform since July 2013.

Yesterday, the Dayton Daily News reported that Governor Kasich no longer intends to put congressional redistricting reform in the state budget.  His press secretary says that he is working with legislative leaders "to find the best path forward."

Rest assured, LWVO together with our partners in the Fair Districts = Fair Elections coalition remain committed to pushing Congressional redistricting reform. We welcome interest from the governor and legislature, but we can't afford to wait indefinitely. We'll keep you apprised of our plans to keep this issue moving forward and how you can take action.

5. LWVO Board Nominations - Responses due Jan. 31
In November 2016, the LWV Ohio Nominating Committee sent an invitation to League presidents, asking them to look around their League and recommend members they believe may be well-suited for the Board of Directors. We want to hear from you!  Do you know someone (perhaps yourself!) who would be capable and effective as a state board member?

It is vital that we have a strong board including League members from around the State with different skills and passions. In particular, we are looking for someone interested in serving as treasurer, to review financial reports prepared by our Executive Director and contract accountant to ensure we stay on budget. Service on the State Board is a wonderful opportunity to advance the work of the State League and meet and interact with fellow Leaguers around the State.

Please complete this nominating form and return it to the LWV Ohio nominating committee at nominating@lwvohio.org by January, 31, 2017.

6. LWVO Bylaws Committee request
The Bylaws Committee welcomes your suggestions for possible changes to consider to the LWVO Bylaws. In December 2016, the state League Bylaws Committee sent an invitation to local League presidents to review and suggest changes to the current state League bylaws. The deadline to submit suggestions is January 31, 2017. Suggestions can be submitted using this Google form. Proposed changes will be discussed and voted on at the state convention in May.

7. Reminder: Primary Election Systems (PES) Study consensus responses due Jan. 31
The PES Study Guide and Consensus questions were sent to local Leagues in September. Responses are due no later than January 31, 2017. Leagues are asked to submit their responses using this online consensus question response form here.

As a reminder, the PES Study Guide, Consensus Questions, and supplemental materials are available on the LWVO website here.

8. Reminder: State Program Planning responses due Feb. 24
2017 is a state convention year which means it is state program planning time. The Program Planning process lets local Leagues review League positions and recommend changes. Program Planning meeting responses will be due back to the state League no later than February 24, 2017.

Program Planning Packets are available on the state League website here. We will be reviewing LWV Ohio positions, which are online here. LWVUS positions are available online here.

We are only reviewing state positions this year, not national positions. However, if your League is contemplating proposing a study or update, you may want to consult LWVUS positions to make sure that topic is not already covered. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the state office at 614-469-1505 or lwvoinfo@lwvohio.org.

9. February All-Member Call
Our February all-member conference call will be on Tuesday, February 7, 12-1 pm.

CALL-IN NUMBER: 866-740-1260
PIN NUMBER: 4691505#

The recording of the all-member call will be available following the call until the end of the month. Please note that the call recording is intended for LWV members and guests and therefore, should not be shared with anyone outside the League family. Thank you.

10. Final Reminder from the LWVUS - All Roster Updates Due January 31
Time is running out to update your League's membership roster! For assistance on working in the database you can download the user manual or contact rostersupport@lwv.org.
