Goodbye to Year 2, Hello Year 3!
Today marks the final day of Year 2 for the Ohio TechNet grant! There have been many challenges, and even more successes throughout the course of this grant. Now is a great time to reflect, and  move forward to a successful implementation. 
Data Submission
Final data query of participants should occur today, and completed data templates are due to LCCC by Monday, October 3rd at 5pm via ShareFile. Submission should include completed data templates, as outlined in recent Data Affinity Group Meeting Webinar.

As you proceed through this process, please be sure to refer to page 83 of the SGA to review requirements regarding Safeguarding Data Including Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

LIFT Robotic Blacksmithing Competition
Tuesday's consortium call will be held as a webinar. Dr. Glenn Daehn, Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at Ohio State University will join to discuss LIFT's Robotic Blacksmithing Competition

Please encourage engineering faculty to join us for Dr. Daehn's presentation. In this competition, students will have the opportunity to design and build robots to win recognition and awards totaling $50,000, in addition to working on cutting edge technology that could shape the future of manufacturing for years to come.

Manufacturing day is quickly approaching, and there are currently more than 2,300 events planned across the United States to celebrate on Friday, October 7th! Ohio TechNet would love to hear about plans underway at our partners schools.

Ohio Engineering Technology Educators Association (OETEA) Conference:  Building Ohio's Future Workforce
OETEA has planned a conference - Building Ohio's Future Workforce - on Friday, October 28th from 10am-3pm at Columbus State Community College. The goal of this conference is to increase the number of youth interested in an engineering technology field of study, starting in high school and through higher education, to better serve the manufacturers of Ohio.

Society of Women Engineers Presents: Careers in STEM
In celebration of Manufacturing month, Society of Women Engineers at LCCC is hosting “ Careers in STEM” on October 4th from 8:30-11:30am. Middle and high school students, teachers, counselors, parents and community are invited to attend. Also, female engineering students and engineers from industry will share their experiences, U.S. Army representatives will speak to students, and attendees will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience. This is an interactive event to provide exposure to STEM career pathways.  

TAACCCT Voices of Opportunity - Creating Resiliency and Building Community: A Grantee-Led Webinar 
This webinar will be the first in a series designed and led by TAACCCT grantees. This series will be an opportunity for grantees to share their innovations and the insights they developed while building their programs. Learn how the Northeast Resiliency Consortium (NRC), a Round-3 TAACCCT grantee, brought together students, faculty, staff, and employers to define and design what would become the Resiliency Competency Model on October 4th from 2-3:30pm

2017 INNOVATE Conference - Call for Proposals
The OLC/MERLOT Program Committee seeks proposals for the OLC INNOVATE conference scheduled for April 5-7, 2017 in New Orleans. Proposals should reflect and showcases a vibrant community of practice — promoting theory, research, methodology and/or applied effective practices in online, blended, and web-enhanced teaching and learning — and are due by October 12th.

Ohio TechNet will be facilitating a roundtable discussion at the upcoming National Council for Workforce Education conference: Keeping the Promises of Workforce Education. This will be held on  October 12th-13th in Atlanta, GA.

2017 Workforce Development Institute: Inspiring Innovation
The American Association of Community Colleges' (AACC) Workforce Development Institute 2017 (WDI) continues to be a pre-eminent opportunity for in-depth exchanges and networking for economic and workforce leaders at community colleges and their partners. The WDI 2017 theme is “Inspiring Innovation,” and will include a special meet-up of TAACCCT grantees focused on peer networking and conversations on sustainability. This will be held on January 25-28th in Newport Beach, CA.

Join Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) at Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon, OH on October 1st for G.I. Go, a free program focusing on creating a network of service members, both past and present, which emphasizes community, physical well-being and education on opportunities and benefits available to these groups.
Ohio Department of Veteran Services Creates New Workforce Team
The Workforce team at DVS believes it can improve veteran employment outcomes by working with employers to expand their knowledge of veteran-specific programs and employment resources.

Ohio Means Veteran Jobs
OhioMeansJobs has a portal for veterans. This includes a military skills translator to help veterans build a civilian resume, an MOS search to match veterans military skills with Ohio’s in-demand jobs, a list of more than 1,400 military-friendly employers and information on how veterans and military spouses receive priority service when obtaining a
state-issued professional license or certificate.

In this brief the approaches of three consortia to build capacity and expand student support services are described. Consortia include the following: Colorado Online Energy Training Consortium (COETC), Gulf Coast IT Consortium (GCIT), and Technical Retraining to Achieve Credentials (TRAC–7).

Ohio TechNet is designed to transform the way in which higher education works with employers to better align education and training with industry needs for Advanced Manufacturing in Ohio. The goals and strategies of Ohio TechNet are to better identify businesses' most pressing needs, align and accelerate training programs to fill the skills gap, and support transformation of the state's workforce delivery system.

Ohio TechNet launched in 2014 via a $15 million TAACCCT grant made to LCCC on behalf of a statewide consortium of 11 Ohio community colleges including Columbus State, Cincinnati State, Tri-C, Eastern Gateway, Lakeland, LCCC, Owens, Rhodes, Stark State, Sinclair and Zane State.

This workforce product was funded by a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
