Upcoming Consortium Call: eduFACTOR
Ohio TechNet has purchased campus-wide eduFACTOR memberships for our 11 partner colleges, providing resources and tools, based on the Edge Factor Stories, for educators and business leaders to inspire the next generation of makers. Cindy May and Toni Neary will join us during tomorrow’s consortium call to share suggestions for utilization of these fabulous tools.

Ohio Receives ApprenticeshipUSA State Expansion Grant
The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services was awarded $2 million to fund the College Apprenticeship Consortium project, which will augment the role of state colleges by serving in a non-traditional role as Registered Apprenticeship sponsors in the Advanced Manufacturing and Healthcare sectors. Also, National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is November 14 – 20, 2016, and the NAW website has been updated to include a real-time list of all registered events.

LIFT Robotic Blacksmithing Competition
Manufacturing USA's LIFT initiative has teamed with the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence (CDME) at The Ohio State University to initiate the LIFT Prize in Robotic Blacksmithing, a student competition using agile processing principles. The competition pairs students with emerging cutting-edge technologies and industry experts. Generous prizes and national recognition are available for the winning teams. Register your team today!
Utilizing Free Online Educational Resources on the SkillsCommons.org Repository: Part I
This webinar, scheduled on November 3rd from 3-4:30pm, is the first in a two-part webinar series focused on the resources and services available on SkillsCommons.org. As TAACCCT grantees, we are required to upload curriculum and other grant products to this site. Participants will learn how to get connected with people, technologies, and resources they can leverage to help achieve their project goals.

Manufacturing Month at Sinclair
Manufacturing Month has proven successful for the Ohio TechNet team at Sinclair Community College. Ohio TechNet Project Manager and Academic Coach participated in the MFG Day tours and discussed the Accelerate MFG program with students, employees and several public officials in attendance. Additionally, this team partnered with Sinclair’s manufacturing programs to showcase an exhibit at the 2016 AMTS (Advanced Manufacturing Technology Show). This was an opportunity to promote the new Accelerate MFG program as well.

Upcoming Events
Ohio Engineering Technology Educators Association (OETEA) Conference:  Building Ohio's Future Workforce
OETEA has planned a conference - Building Ohio's Future Workforce - on Friday, October 28th from 10am-3pm at Columbus State Community College. The goal of this conference is to increase the number of youth interested in an engineering technology field of study, starting in high school and through higher education, to better serve the manufacturers of Ohio.

2017 Workforce Development Institute: Inspiring Innovation
The American Association of Community Colleges' (AACC) Workforce Development Institute 2017 (WDI) continues to be a pre-eminent opportunity for in-depth exchanges and networking for economic and workforce leaders at community colleges and their partners. The WDI 2017 theme is “Inspiring Innovation,” and will include a special meet-up of TAACCCT grantees focused on peer networking and conversations on sustainability. This will be held on January 25-28th in Newport Beach, CA.

The Small Business Development Center at Lorain County Community College will host a training for veterans on entrepreneurship on November 11th from 9am-4pm
Listening to Student Veterans
The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE), Ohio Department of Veteran Services (ODVS), and NEOVETS are sponsoring "Listening to Student Veterans" roundtable sessions on November 16th at Lakeland Community College and Cuyahoga Community College. ODHE Chancellor John Carey and ODVS Chip Tansill will lead these discussions.

Art Inspired by the Front Lines
Attend the “Art Inspired by the Front Lines” exhibit  at the Vern Riffe Building. This exhibit showcases the artwork of Ohio veterans and reflects their experiences serving in the US military. The exhibit, which is free to all, will run October 18th - November 13th and appear in the Art Gallery’s extension in the lobby area of the first floor of the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts.

2016 Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame
Inductees into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame served their country honorably in a branch of military service and continued to serve their communities, state and nation after discharge. Honor the Ohioans in this year’s class by attending the Induction Ceremony on November 3rd at  11am at the Lincoln Theater in Columbus, OH.

Ohio Department of Veteran Services Creates New Workforce Team
The Workforce team at DVS believes it can improve veteran employment outcomes by working with employers to expand their knowledge of veteran-specific programs and employment resources.

Ohio Means Veteran Jobs
OhioMeansJobs has a portal for veterans. This includes a military skills translator to help veterans build a civilian resume, an MOS search to match veterans military skills with Ohio’s in-demand jobs, a list of more than 1,400 military-friendly employers and information on how veterans and military spouses receive priority service when obtaining a
state-issued professional license or certificate.

Integrating Contextualized Math in the MultiCraft Curricula at Sauk Valley Community College
Office of Community College Research and Leadership recently released a brief that describes how integrated math and reading supports were used to improve outcomes for students in the manufacturing pathway.

Ohio TechNet is designed to transform the way in which higher education works with employers to better align education and training with industry needs for Advanced Manufacturing in Ohio. The goals and strategies of Ohio TechNet are to better identify businesses' most pressing needs, align and accelerate training programs to fill the skills gap, and support transformation of the state's workforce delivery system.

Ohio TechNet launched in 2014 via a $15 million TAACCCT grant made to LCCC on behalf of a statewide consortium of 11 Ohio community colleges including Columbus State, Cincinnati State, Tri-C, Eastern Gateway, Lakeland, LCCC, Owens, Rhodes, Stark State, Sinclair and Zane State.

This workforce product was funded by a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
