This Week at Your Library: June 12

Dear Library Member,

The summer season is upon us, and it's important to remember that the need for blood never takes a vacation. Once again, the Library will be hosting a Blood Drive.  It will take place at our Central location on June 14, World Blood Donor Day, from 1 pm to 6:45 pm and is sponsored by New Jersey Blood Services.

You can simply walk in or make an appointment by calling 800-933-2566 or by logging onto http://tinyurl.com/oblibrarydrive. To donate, you must be between 17 and 76 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds; 16-year-olds can donate with a parental consent form and those over 76 can donate with a doctor's note. If you have diabetes, or blood pressure controlled by medication, you can donate. Most medications will not disqualify you from being an eligible donor; you can call
1-800-688-0900 for more information about eligibility requirements. You are encouraged to eat before coming, and to bring ID and proof of age. D onating now will help to prevent a summer blood shortage.  We hope you will donate for this valuable effort plus you will receive a discount promo code valid for a Six Flags Great Adventure daily pass/parking (value up to $22!).

Many thanks to Girl Scout Cadettes from Troop
8 1291 for painting our newest Little Free Library, which was placed by DPW in front of our Laurence Harbor Branch at 277 Shoreland Circle. The design ties in with the girls' "Save the Coral Reef" project they are working on for their Silver Award. This joins our other two Little Free Libraries located at the Old Bridge Park and Ride commuter lots on Route 9 North at Westminster Boulevard and at Inverness Drive. Many thanks to Isabella Hamm, Melodie Conlon, Tessa Linkletter, Jessica Prekeris and Anna Hoegler.  Please stop by and take or donate a book!

Have a spectacular week.  See you in the Library.

aMAZEme art exhibit, London, England

This art exhibit was installed in the city's Royal Festival Hall in 2012. Created by Brazilian artists Marcos Saboya and Gualter Pupo, the maze was designed in the shape of celebrated writer Jorge Borges' unique fingerprint.  The charitable organization  Oxfam loaned 150,000 used books to the project, while another 100,000 were donated by publishing houses from around the UK. T he books were given to Oxfam once the maze was deconstructed, with the funds from the project being used for their work fighting poverty around the world
