City of Birmingham, MI
Old Woodward Reconstruction Project Update - 5/4/18
Contractors will be working this weekend (Sat. 5-5-18 and Sun. 5-6-18) on the reconstruction of Old Woodward, with now 25 percent-one quarter- of the project completed.

New water main service reconnections' latest as of (2:30 p.m.) 5-4-18:

While conditions on the ground can change due to unforeseen circumstances, it is anticipated that all businesses on Old Woodward (both the east and west side of the street) between Maple and Willits-the northern end of the Old Woodward Reconstruction Project-will be reconnected to the new water main service following a water shutoff, estimated to have gotten underway at 2:00 p.m. and to last approximately four hours, barring an unexpected development. It is anticipated that 265 N. Old Woodward and the Palladium Building, will not be affected and will have water during the entire period of time. Further, if all goes well this afternoon, no shutdowns are anticipated for this weekend (Sat. 5-5 and Sun. 5-6).

The City appreciates the cooperation, flexibility and patience of the business community as it works to complete the water shutoff/reconnection process as fast as possible, with as minimal impact as possible, while overcoming variables such as changing weather conditions and unexpected underground infrastructure complications.

Looking ahead, similar water shutoffs and reconnections are tentatively planned for local businesses on Maple Road near the Old Woodward intersection by the middle of next week (Wed. 5-9-18). Please monitor for updates early next week once work plans are finalized.

Meanwhile, the City encourages the public to support the merchant community by visiting your favorite locations in downtown Birmingham this weekend (Sat. 5-5-18 and Sun. 5-6-18).
