Centre Ice Arena Undergoes Major Renovations

If it's been a while since you've been inside Centre Ice Arena, we hope you took a good look around before you headed out the door. Some things have changed. You may not recognize the place when you come back.

The most obvious improvement will be immediately evident when you enter the upper concourse from the stairwells. The new flooring may just stop you dead in your tracks.

Then, take a stroll across the new, snazzy flooring and peek inside West Rink. The ice is back in and the new in-ice logos look amazing. Wow!
However, the renovations that will have the greatest impact, both immediately and for many years to come, are the ones that you may not notice right away. According to Terry Marchand, I.C.E. Executive Director "this is the biggest news since the rink was built."

Beginning this month, work will begin on replacing the outdated cooling tower which has surpassed its projected life span by five years. Following that project, the lighting in both rinks will be upgraded to the efficient LED variety. Keen Technical Solutions of Traverse City is the company heading up the project.

"Keen is excited by the opportunity to assist Centre Ice in reducing its energy costs while increasing its capacity for making better ice for skaters," said Mike Powers, an Energy Solutions Consultant for Keen. "In addition to replacing the condenser used in the ice making process, we will also be replacing the lights over the rinks with high powered LED fixtures equipped with dimming and occupancy controls. These lights will significantly reduce energy use and allow staff to adjust light levels to match the needs on the rinks."

Keen's role doesn't end with equipment installation. " We will be monitoring and reporting energy savings in partnership with Cherryland Electric and will present an Environmental Stewardship Award that will document the projected energy savings and environmental benefits," explains Powers. "Projected environmental benefits from the combined projects are equivalent to planting 66 acres of trees every year and 30,000 gallons of gas conserved!"

How long does it take to complete a project of this magnitude? "We anticipate that the cooling tower replacement will be done before the end of June and the lighting will be completed before the end of August," according to Powers.

Progress on the project will be documented in future issues of On Ice so stay tuned!

Support Your Hometown Hockey Team: Become a TC Hounds Home Game Sponsor!
Sponsorship Opportunities Starting at $500; Includes Year-Round Brand Exposure at Centre Ice Arena!
The TC Hounds will begin their fourth season at Centre Ice Arena this October and businesses have an outstanding opportunity to support the hometown hockey team and receive year-round brand exposure at Centre Ice Arena.
The TC Hounds provide affordable family fun during their 20+ home games at Centre Ice Arena. Tickets are only $5 and kids 5 and under get in free. According to Scott Gardiner, owner of the TC Hounds, a USPHL Junior A Hockey Team, "We want to keep our ticket prices as low as possible to allow fans to come out and enjoy great hockey without being concerned about the cost. It's cheaper than a movie and big fun for the whole family."

Businesses that sponsor the Hounds help keep ticket prices down while supporting the team AND getting their message out to fans not only during Hounds games but at all events held in West Rink at Centre Ice throughout the year. According to Tricia Frey, Marketing Director for Centre Ice, "There are three levels of sponsorship opportunities with the Hounds - $500, $1,000 and $1,500. All three provide the business with year-round advertising at the rink - either in the form of a window decal, wall banner or dasher board - plus sponsorship of one home game and a number of free tickets to games."

What is very important to understand is that sponsorship supports the players directly. "Advertising dollars go towards player fees to keep the costs down for our players," says Gardiner. "It's about the kids."
The Home Game Sponsor program is something new for the 2016-2017 season and is included in all levels of sponsorship. "In the past we've allowed Hounds' sponsors the opportunity to have a booth during a game, but this year we're getting advertisers involved with interactive theme nights. This will make games even more fun for fans while raising awareness for the businesses that support the Hounds," said Frey. "One focus of this program involves 'filling the windows for the Hounds.' For only $500, businesses get a window decal in West Rink for the year along with being assigned a home game to sponsor. There are only 18 windows still available and it's first come, first served."

To support the TC Hounds, contact Tricia Frey at [email protected] or call (231) 933-7465 x106.
